Marvel’s Avengers on the Xbox Series X. Doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but a decent enough way to kill time.

    Far Cry 5 (co-op with a friend).

It's a lot of fun with a friend and the gun play is really slick but the game has a habit of taking one step forward and one step back. It's chaos at times and could do with a bit more structure. The AI could be smarter and the enemies appear to frequent in the maps.

Days Gone on the PS4, currently. Not too far into it, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I like that sound plays a large role. Really makes you think about how to approach a situation. Just for fun, while I was out clearing a camp, I triggered a trap and had the enemy NPCs fighting the incoming zombies. It did half the work for me :D

I really enjoyed Days Gone. Shame we won't get a sequel :( The hordes may seem daunting now, but by the time I was done with the game, it was easy work :)

I started playing Tales of Arise.

The Tales series in general has been a B/B+ series for me, but I'm not feeling this one so far. Besides being a major graphical upgrade for the series. It's just kinda boring for an ARPG.

To me, the appeal of Action RPG combat is the process of learning enemy behaviors and figuring out creative ways to avoid damage while getting close enough to inflict it. In this one, enemy behavior is all the same, they lunge straight toward you, and they choreograph the move three seconds in advance. There's no creativeness or hecticness, you pummel and evade when it's obviously going to attack.

Another thing Tales is usually good at even in its bad games is having likable characters. The characters are just sorta blah so far, they have one facial expression and always seem annoyed. The concept that one race is enslaving another is a cool idea for a story. But even that they make weird and overcomplicate with some nonsense about "Oh we don't even need the labor, we just need to work people to death because it funnels astral energy for our weird rituals!" Just make it about slavery, that's emotionally compelling enough.

They also made it so stuff like fetch quests and achievements that's supposed to be optional is required to open up the skill tree or buy anything. So you're forced to spend time on the boring parts of the game to get strong enough for the fun parts.

Oh, no sequel? I like sneaking up on them and stabby stabby. It's when there's no good cover when clearing nests that I feel overwhelmed.

There is this one, set in WWII and featuring a member of the British SOE who's also undertaking a mission for the OSS, undergoing missions that are as action packed as any James Bond movie or novel (he also has access to silenced weapons, which can be brought separately as an add-on to the game that allow him to get the enemy silently.)

I beat Final Fantasy VII Remake recently. It was pretty good, although I think it was a bit padded and had a few sections that definitely could have been trimmed down to make the game flow better. I never got that far in the original FF7 (although I have beaten several FF games, VII just never really grabbed me), but I'll definitely play the sequel to this when it comes out.

I also beat (twice) Henchman Story, a fun visual novel on PS4 (and PC/Xbox also, I think). A light hearted story of a henchman just trying to live his day to day life, it had good writing and very good voice acting. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes superhero stuff and games in the visual novel style.

Finally, I've started the Mass Effect Legendary Edition with ME 1. I've played all the games several times, but ME1 probably the least, and so far its a big upgrade. The load times alone are a big improvement, the Elevators and load screens seem to fly by (by Mass Effect 1 standards especially). I haven't quite gotten to a Mako section, but hopefully thats been improved as well.

I've been playing the reboot God of War the last few weeks, and I'm loving. It's got fun gameplay, beautiful graphics for a PS4 game, and a great story and performances.

Yeah, I loved everything about that game, and it was my first one in the series and it's making me look forward to the next. It's also been recently revealed it's coming to PC.

Until I clicked on it, I thought you were talking about The Saboteur, which is another great game with a similar theme.

I finished up the main story in God of War yesterday, but I still need to finish the stuff in Muspelheim and Nifelheim, so I'm not sure if I'm done yet. Right now I'm thinking about taking a break, and going back to get some of the stuff I missed on Psychonauts 2, and then finishing it up.

I've been playing Bayonetta and The Artful Escape. I also bought Guardians of the Galaxy so I'll most likely start playing that tomorrow.

I binged Limbo and Inside over the weekend (it's a holiday weekend where I live).

    Thoughts:

Limbo is stylish and visually beautiful, but stops being fun around two-thirds of the way through and is a real chore by the end. There is such a thing as being too unforgiving, especially when the frustration at the slightly sluggish controls pushes into "rage-quit" territory.

Inside is incredibly atmospheric and a big improvement over Limbo. It is perhaps slightly less stylish – or stylised, anyway – but every bit as beautiful, and much more emotionally involving. It's like an adventure through my dreams/nightmares – those cavernous liminal spaces, the decaying industrial landscapes, the impossibly deep water. It's like they reached into my head. Yes, the ending is weird... but I really enjoyed this game as an experience. I'll definitely play this one again.

Well I'm only about two hours into the game, but so far I'm enjoying it. The banter between all the characters is very entertaining. :D

I found the more frustrating parts of Limbo the earlier parts that gravitate more toward trial and error than logic.
