"Trill: that's an interesting race"...um, no, no it's not

Can I strongly disagree with you? I've liked them since TNG and Jadzia is one of my fave Trek characters. I agree though, they could have done with a little more show than tell. But if I remember didn't Jadzia say hey you, Ben this is Curzon or the old man now. ??? All together I still think Jadzia was a fun character.

I don't know if your post here is a reply to my previous post but I assume that it is.

I don't hate or dislike the Trill, I just find the whole concept a little weird.

I like Jadzia and I think that it was sad that they killed her off.

They should have let her join the Enterprise crew instead (at least it could be told that she did that) and then Ezri could have been presented as her sister or something like that.

By the way, I like your avatar since it is a picture of my favorite DS9 character! :bolian:

@WarpTenLizard You've been here long enough to know that resurrecting long-dead threads is frowned upon. It's been 12 years since someone last posted in this thread! I mean, for the love of V'Ger, you have to scroll through more than 140 pages before you can find another thread this old. I was in my 30s the last time someone posted in this thread and now I'm in my 50s for crying out loud! Need I go on?

Now, having said all that, I'm going to leave it open since it's generated new interest and discussion, but please remember to check the date of the last post before you respond to a thread. If it's something you really feel the need to respond to, please just start a new thread and link back to anything you feel is relevant.

Thanks! :)

I apologize, and will try not to let it happen again.

No. I thought I was talking to the OP. I think. Glad you like Jadzia and my icon. :)

Why the Enterprise, particularly? Having every starship that does something interesting makes Starfleet look awfully small. They already established that the Lexington comes by DS9 regularly. If Jadzia joined them and the producers wanted her to come by and be in an episode or two during season 7 (like the flashbacks in the finale) it would fit in-universe for her to show up, and they could just use extras for any Lexington crew they wanted to show. On the other hand, if she was on the Enterprise and they had to have the E show up, they'd have to pay to get Patrick Stewart and Frakes and Burton and friends all come too or it would look weird, and since TNG was over by then they'd have other commitments and it would be hard to even get them all together.

I can see your point and the problems with getting the actors together.
But they could have had Jadzia leaving without showing up any Enterprise crewmember. Just some mentionings about it an a goodbye at some airlock between jadzia, Sisko and Worf.

Or why not the Lexington? It could also have been a good idea! :techman:

It's possible for old threads to turn up in search engines. I found one from 2010 by typing "janeway hated harry" into Google. No, I didn't post on it.

The rules on Trill re-association were a little ridiculous... given all the also-rans like Verad out there, do you really think that a Trill couldn't find their slug a new home after they passed on?

I see some sense behind anti-re-association laws. The point of having multiple lifetimes for the symbiont is giving them a multitude of experiences and memories to draw from in making their decisions. Not to fall in love with the same symbiont multiple times or do the same career again. But that should have kept Ezri from working at DS9....

If they talked about the Enterprise coming in to dock and no one except Jadzia turned up, I'm thinking more than a few TNG fans would have felt ripped off. Miles and Jordi don't want to say hello? Or Worf and Picard?

I didn't say the laws didn't make sense, just that they couldn't really be enforced, given the competition for symbionts. Let's say Verad decides not to resort to murder to get what he wants, or his girlfriend talks him out of it... instead, he finds an aging Trill who's been exiled due to re-association. When they die, he gets the symbiont, and the Symbiosis board can't do a damn thing.

Ah, maybe they should have paid Patrick Stewart for a short appearance.
Not to mention that I would have liked to see more crossovers between TNG and DS9, especially during the Dominion war.

That's why I think that Ezri should have beena sister, cousin or relative to Jadzia, not a person with the same symbiont.
