Yes, which is an example of writing we would normally describe as careless, so why not continue to characterize it as such to this day? Starfleet is supposed to be competent except when someone is specifically called out as incompetent or corrupt, and the job of a writer is to make Starfleet look good as a rule. It’s like you’re settling for Star Trek forever being plotted at a certain level, instead of asking for one thing even if the show delivers another. Would the drama have been so different if Boimler could get in as himself but Mariner couldn’t?

My presumption is that a DNA check is performed at some stage, and William and Brad have the same DNA (merely weeks of separation), so the system will have no means of differentiating the two.
At the very least Brad would have a communicator assigned to “Brad Boimler”, with no way for Brad to change that merely by tinkering with it.
definitely not used in this instance, since the communicator he used on the Titan was of a different design.
Anyway, is even Starfeet that’s running security at the party? I don’t remember the alien bouncer being in uniform.
It's an exclusive after party to the Command Conference. Since Starbase 25 seems to have quite a large civilian and extra legal population, I assume it's run outside of Starfleet jurisdiction. The bouncer seemed to have been working off of a list, tied into the Starfleet database, so there may have been a bit of an honor system going on and the bouncer may have been allowed discretion in case important non-Starfleet VIPs showed up.

We finally get some closure to the fact that Boimler just went off to the Titan without considering the feelings of his friends. Granted, that happens in real life, we move on to other things and sometimes we hurt the people who don't want us to leave in our pursuit of greater things, so it's nice to see that Mariner is still upset.

Anyhoo, when I first saw the Doopler ambassador, I was hoping he would sound like Jon Lovits, as he shares some real Jay Sherman vibes, but it ended up being Richard Kind, and so it still worked out very well. I love Richard in so many things. Lots of great little moments, the "so this is how I'm going to die" groundskeeper who ends up living and is disappointed is darkly funny.
I like the little nod to Kirk and Spock, yeah it's a bit of fan service, as many things in this show are, but I genuinely appreciate it. It looks like Mariner and her mother are much more alike than they protest, Tendi and Rutherford's bonding time is cute, I loved the tiny computer voice countdown, the little core popping out, and then the actual explosion because of course those two would have a fully functional model in every respect.
All in all, this one gets an 8 out of 10.
Special points go to Dr. T'ana for just telling all of the Dooplers to f*ck the f*ck off. She really is awesome.

Well, I like my friends and all but I would certainly not sacrifice my career for the sake of my friends. So I can certainly sympathize.
They sold the vacuum dessicated remains, usually in 52 numbered containers with a Ferengi Seal of Dismemberment. Depending on the level of prosperity, some of the remains might wind up on the Ferengi Futures Exchange.
Not all dumb ideas in the Trek franchise are created equal. Some might even argue that Trek's recent output has been (on balance) far dumber than ever before......

Everyone's different. In this case, I'm with Mariner. I wouldn't sacrifice the people I care about for a career. What good is a career if I have to leave the people who make life worth anything? Careers are just jobs we think we can work until we die.
Well, what happens usually is that you make new friends, and don't actually lose the old ones. It's a win-win.
Doesn't always shake out that way. I made new friends, sure. The old ones might message on FB now and again, but they don't drop by - it's always "when are you coming down next?".
Worf would claim such things would never happen on the Enterprise. Odo would then step in and list all the times they did happen on the Enterprise.
