What did you think of Kirk kicking Kruge to his death?

Kirk went out of his way to be civilized and compassionate toward such a deluded soul, still got treated worse than shit (the Federation and Klingons had an uneasy peace, at best - and Kirk was able to keep that fresh in his mind too), and finally changed tactics when every last option was lost... the movie's theme was about turning death into life, weaved in so many ways - either literal, figurative, or abstract. Wouldn't it have been more interesting if Kruge changed his mind at the end instead of Kirk, when realizing the damn thing wasn't conceived as a weapon despite it being told time and again that it wasn't? Sheesh, he saw the same video for cryin' out loud! Kirk had real guts and to hold out for the greater good of peace (and hoping Kruge would figure it out) despite all that Kruge had done. IMHO, YMMV.

Seemed pretty Starfleet to me.

Plus, what @dupersuper said early on. :)

I think the concept of Obi-Wan and Anakin's duel with Anakin falling into a pit of fiery lava first appeared in the ROTJ novelization in 1983.
I recall reading about it as early as a 1977 Lucas interview in Rolling Stone magazine (Vader and Luke's father were still separate people)

Kirk, despite the fact that this man was responsible for all this (not to mention creating a completely alternate timeline), and his father's death, still offered to save him and his crew. Nero told him to stick it up his jefferies tube...so Kirk destroyed him to ensure his trip into the black hole didn't simply result in another time travel event.
That's not what happened. Nero was already doomed to die from the black hole, with Kirk even stating as such.

NuKirk: Your ship is compromised, too close to the singularity to survive without assistance, which we are willing to provide.

And why wouldn't that be the case? The Narada was cut in half! You can see it's appendages being torn off before the Enterprise fires a single shot. This was less "I must destroy you so you don't harm anyone else in other timelines" and more "I must destroy you so I can get the satisfaction of being directly responsible for your death rather than you dying from your own stupidity."

In regards to Kruge, I do think Kirk's intention to try and save him was genuine, but the moment Kruge took that opportunity to try and murder him I think really compliments Kirk's future attitude towards them in TUC.

We are talking about a villain who did jack all during his 25 years of waiting for Spock to appear. He could have done literally anything to hurt Spock, the Vulcans, the Federation and prevent the destruction of Romulus. So yes, he would died of sheer stupidity had Kirk not decided to pull the trigger himself

Trapped with the Klingons will interfere with a person's plans like that.

Kirk had not way of knowing for certainty that Nero would die. He was still dangerous, demonstrated to be highly unstable, and unable to be reasoned with. Not sure what else Kirk could have done to ensure the threat was neutralized.

...Indeed, that part ending up being cut makes things more plausible overall. After all:

Ayel: "Sir, we've arrived at the coordinates you calculated."
Other Romulan miner: "There's nothing here."
Ayel: "What are your orders?"
Nero: "We wait. We wait for the one who allowed our home to be destroyed, as we've been doing for twenty-five years."

It really doesn't sound as if the 25 yr wait would have been by anything but their own volition, a chosen interval of inaction until Spock arrives.

Plus, it probably would take Nero 25 years to learn to calculate those coordinates, or to plan devastating attacks, or to repair his mining rig after the Kelvin plunged into it.

Where exactly in the film does it specifically state that Nero and his crew were trapped by the Klingons?
Sadly cut. But, there was a problem at a Klingon prison planet and multiple ships destroyed. So, something went on with the Klingons in the intervening time.

No, it's not specified directly in the film. It is my own inference based upon what is presented in the film.

The final cut of film doesn't specifically say. But Nero and co. were apparently up to something during all that time, besides just sitting around waiting in their ship. When the Narada first shows up in the 23rd century and encounters the Kelvin, Nero doesn't have those nasty tooth marks on his scalp and a chunk missing from his right ear, like he does in his later encounter with Pike's enterprise. In PrimeSpock's mind meld with NuKirk, we get a glimpse of Nero with that scarring, in some unspecified setting which does not appear to be the Narada. The deleted plotline would have made it clear that this was on the Klingon prison planet mentioned in the movie, where the Narada destroyed an armada of forty-seven Klingon ships.

I think it says something about Kruge's character that he doesn't rub Kirk's face in it when it's revealed that David was Kirk's son. A more petty villain probably would have done so. And then there was that nominal bit of respect with "I give two minutes for you and your gallant crew."

It beats the hell out of Kirk trying to beat the shit out of Khan AFTER he surrendered. That was really crass.
