News Strange New Worlds casting/new characters

If you're going to do a time travel story, offer something new. For example, Discovery's first season had a time loop episode that didn't really do anything new at all. Whereas Dark Matter's episode changed things up a bit by having it begin with the loop already in progress and having it that more people could be brought into the loop.

Other than changing the characters involved, how does Trek offer "something new" when over the last 55 years it has covered every incarnation of Time Travel that's available in over 50 episodes and 4 movies?

I'm not sure. I'd like them to hire some literary sci-fi writers who can come up with imaginative concepts. They don't have to be 100% original, just different enough that it doesn't feel like something we've seen a million times.

Even if this show is just Planet of the Week style adventures, there's enough they can do with that including ways to make it fresh and new without having to resort to doing a time travel story. And hell, since we know season 2 of Picard is going to have time travel as its central arc, do we really even need a time travel episode in SNW?

It's also decidedly unimaginative given the fact that two other shows every Star Trek series ever made heavily occasionally feature(d) time travel.
FTFY.

And no, Picard season 1 didn't heavily feature time travel; and if anything STD S2's take was rather unique in that it's really the first time we had a Star Trek 'Timelord-esque' (Burnham's mother) character constantly messing with the timestream. Aside from the U.S.S. Discovery jumping to the 32nd century at the end of its second season - no that season didn't feature time travel. Yes, the Guardian of Forever made an appearance; but the story involving it was more 'alternate (mirror) universe' than time travel.

The closest parallel from the Berman era was Daniels in ENT and the whole (IMO ridiculous TCW arc) but even Daniels only did very targeted time travel with an entire organization making decisions on when and where to intervene.

Lastly:
Supposedly Picard Season 2 does feature time travel; but as it looks like 'Q-assisted' time travel ala TNG S7 "All Good Things"; it's more alternate reality based than 'time travel based IF the rumors are in fact true.

It's time travel.

Two timelines
Prime and Kelvin.
Nope.
