Season 13 starts shooting in a few weeks

FB nearly got me with a fan poster that showed Jodie with a nosebleed (i.e. dying), Dan holding the sonic (i.e. next Doctor) and various old enemies including Sil.

#Fuckerberg.

Can we shoot HIM into space next? I won't even complain that he could have solved food poverty or created International Rescue for the same amount.

That news is probably worthy of its own thread. Sad to see Jodie go, but relieved to hear Chibnall will be joining her out the door. Time for a complete refresh. Or dare I say it, maybe even a rest period for the show?
You know, I wouldn't mind if the show just ended with the beginning of the Regeneration and the promise of new adventures to come in the future without revealing the new Doctor And then letting the new showrunner take his or her time getting the story and the casting right and just picking up with a new Doctor mid-adventure, similar to what they did with Christopher Eccleston.

So the new season (the one starting this fall) will be only six episodes (that's what it sounds like from the Chibnall/Whittaker announcement)?

Damn, damn, damn. We knew it was coming (even if some of us wanted to stay in complete denial) so it's not surprising, but it still sucks.

Also, it would've been nice if Jodie had gotten some work with someone other than Chibnall, but I fully understand why that was unlikely ever to happen.

The BBC is being run by monkeys.

You don't admit that your star and creative team are leaving just days after you made a huge deal about their next set of adventures.

I'm less pissed about Jodie and Chibnall leaving (because I knew and understood that it would happen at some point) than I am about the fact that the well has been poisoned before its been drunk from and now all of the haters are going to have the next six months to a year to crow about Doctor Who being 'saved'.

Did nobody else notice that Season 13 is now only six episodes long? So two of the "specials" are episodes from this series moved to next year.

It is a strange choice, timing-wise. Maybe their hands were forced, somehow. Just speculating.

Speaking of, now the discussion of next Doctor and next showrunner can begin in earnest. No ideas myself, just hoping the latter has more imagination than Chibnall, and they and the next Doctor don't pander to those outspoken voices. They should be the Doctor they want to be.

One other thought: I recall much mention of a 5-year plan, but Chibnall's comments now suggest that was never the case. Misunderstanding? People putting words in his mouth? Something else?

Chibnall/Whittaker started in 2018. If they end in 2022, that will be 5 years-ish.
Never mind amounting to 2.5 seasons within that time, still 5 years.

It does seem a harsh comment, in the context of how hard and involved a show like DW is to make, as has been gone over ad nauseum in many threads, and the whole pandemic thing. Unless they find someone as nuts as RTD, a series a year seems pretty unlikely.

One was always going to be a New Year's Day special, now another has either been extended and held back or replaced entirely during filming.
