News Sonequa Martin-Green Knew All Along

Did Sisko promote him? I know Eddington basically was able to fool him and Sisko said he once invited him to a baseball game but I don't recall a promotion. I know him being stationed at DS9 was also against his wishes. I remember him telling Odo that when he got pissed when he came aboard and almost quit.
Sisko on Eddington (from 'For the Uniform): He worked under me for a year and a half. I saw him almost every day, read his reports, had him for dinner. I even took him to a baseball game in the holosuite once. And I never saw it. It's my job to be a good judge of character and what did I do? Not only did I not see it, I put him up for a promotion.

That was just one example. We didn’t really see anything that made her look like a good captain. I mean it’s not a good look if two of your Subordinates are constantly squabbling with each other. A good leader would stop that.

McCoy and Spock in front of Kirk? I do agree though that a good leader would stop that

Sisko being deceived by Eddington shouldn't be a mark against him. We've seen lots of corrupt admirals/officers and even a Romulan masquerading as a Vulcan ambassador throughout the history of Starfleet, so perhaps there's a larger problem with Starfleet/Federation, or these people are just very good at hiding their true intents.

When it comes to Georgiou and Burnham I do think that Georgiou's compassion for Burnham blinded her to some of Burnham's flaws. There's little question that based on her knowledge and ability alone, Burnham was ready for command in "The Vulcan Hello", but it was her emotional/psychological shortcomings that would have made her being promoted to the captain's chair, at that time, not a good decision, and even then I think that's only when the Klingons were involved (and DISCO established that the Klingons had mostly been off the scene for 100 years, so the chances of dealing with them regularly would've been small, or it could've been assumed to be before the Battle of the Binary Stars). I see that differently than Sisko promoting Eddington not to command a starship, even though he did have a very important job on DS9.

I wish we had gotten to see more of Georgiou. Michelle Yeoh has the command presence and I liked the vibe of the Shenzhou bridge crew. I would've been fine with a ST: Shenzhou series instead of DISCO.

When I saw this thread am I the only one who first thought this might have been a thread linking to a parody video of It was Agatha all along only involving Burnham instead?

I mean she was about to recommend that Michael should be a captain when she was nowhere near ready and she seemed completely useless during the battle. T
You need to watch hose scenes again. One of the reasons I liked Georgian so much was because of the way she led the battle. She was on top of everything going on, on her bridge. She directs deployment of weapons, positioning of the ship, damage reports, orders injured crewpersons to sick bay. As she sits in her chair, her head is on a swivel, calmly but firmly and confidently being the leader she is supposed to be. Phillipa really was quite something in that battle.

Like I said, you might want to watch those battle scenes again.
Martin-Green was asked how it felt to be the first Black female captain on Star Trek. “So the fact that I get to champion this kind of diversity and be solidified in the legacy of the franchise as a Black woman, it means what it to each person who takes it into their hearts,” she said. “And so the impact is exponential because one person is affected
Que the “DIVERSITY BAD” crowd.

That’s not even true. We saw a black female captain in Star Trek IV and in TNG.
Already mentioned in the thread.

Sisko was also called the first black Commander/Captain in the 90s even though we already saw ones in those instances. Same with Janeway being called the first female captain in the 90s.

It's just marketing speak.

It's obvious what they meant. Just like back in the day people referred to Sisko as Star Trek's first black captain, or Janeway as Star Trek's first female captain, despite black captains, female captains, and even black female captains having already been featured in the franchise. Just publicity buzzwords, nothing to get too worked up over.
She's, at least, the 1st black Mary Sue of Star Trek. Maybe this season she could rival G.OA.T. Janeway in storylines.

And for the record, my post above didn’t say Burnham was the first Black female captain in Trek, which is what the question in your post implies.

Geordis mother was a captain too..
But I know, first black female lead that is captain.
No mention of Saru being the first alien lead captain..

Now for asian, hispanic, lead. :bolian:
