Season 7 :(

Yes, I know and funnily Joran was able to look at people she wasn't looking at as if she had eyes behind her head for the duration of the "separation". Or knew that a rifle wasn't loaded even of she didn't know it. It's rather confusing given that all that is happening in her head. It's a kind of schizophrenia...

As someone who has had weapons training, I know that you DO NOT point a firearm, loaded or unloaded, at a person you don't intend to kill. Possibly Ezri, as a Starfleet officer, had had similar training. So, even if she knew that the gun was unloaded, it would have been anathema to point it at someone.

The "eyes in back of head" thing was probably just sloppiness, but I'd need to watch the episode again to be sure. Some people have extremely high situational awareness. Being violent by nature, Joran might exhibit this, allowing Ezri to have it while he's "active".

In the documentary, Rene Auberjonois describes Farrell as being young and inexperienced who grew into a strong actor over the course of the series. Conversely, Farrell admitted, in an interview from last year, that Auberjonois would often be impatient with her when she could not nail down scenes. At the very least, there was a perception among some in the cast that she was limited in her abilities at first.

I think they later changed the Dax character to make it easier for her to play Jadzia. I have read in several places that, at first, there was quite a confusion and disagreement on how to write and portray Jadzia (I think Farrel said that some of the writers wanted her to be Yoda, while others wanted her to be Grace Kelly, and others again wanted her to be Curzon or something along the line)
And imho you can see that in the series, especially early on when there were a couple of those shots with Jadzia just sitting somewhere while other characters talked about who she is and what traits and skills she supposedly has, or that weird scene when Dax lectures Sisko about eating right for a good digestion in full old man mode.
That early Jadzia can't have been an easy character to portray.

That change in writing Jadzia also mirrors a shift from portraying Dax (or Cuzon) as the dominant personality to Jadzia being the core of the character.
But even so, we never got an idea of who Jadzia was before the joining, and I don't think the writers knew either, which is just one of the advantages Ezri's character had over Jadzia.

Of course, they changed the character, but she still improved. Consider how much better her acting is in Rejoined than it is in Meridian , or how much better You are Cordially Invited is to Looking for Parmach. Consider how well she stands up against Sisko in Pale Moonlight. She simply got better.

What's strange is that they erased her completely (unlike Tasha or Kes for example), we never even see her in flashbacks... Not even in the final episode when they go through the memories of some of the main characters like Worf for example. It's a bit shocking that Worf wouldn't have a thought for his wife, don't you think?

About the flashbacks, my understanding, based on what others have posted here, is that legally the producers can't use her image during a season when she's not a regular cast member without negotiating a special payment to her. DS9 did use a picture of Jadzia in Worf's quarters early in season 7, for which they did not negotiate or make payment as required. Any producer should have known better, it amounts to stealing and Farrell was not at all pleased. Hurt feelings on both sides, which made negotiating rights to use her image in the series finale pretty much impossible. Yes, it is too bad that the finale lacks any mention of Jadzia.

As far as what led Farrell's contract not to be renewed, I don't anyone but Farrell and the producers really know everything involced, so this is very general. Farrell wanted a lighter shooting schedule, to play a small or no appearance in some episodes. She's not the only actor to consider the typical series television shooting schedules as excessively long hours. (My impression is that current series like Discovery where they make fewer episodes each season may be providing actors and all concerned with a more workable production schedule. I hope so. There's no way they were getting everyone's best work when they were working several 80-hour weeks in a row.) She also wanted a raise consistent with the cost of living - and the producers thought it was a non-starter to pay more money for less work. Accusations have been traded back and forth for years about unfair negotiating tactics, etc., and it's hard to know what really happened from the outside.

I heard the same. Personally, I think they should have negotiated to give her that, and let Jadzia finish out the series. Ezri was too good a character to waste on the tail end of a show.

On the other hand, it allowed them to expand on the Trill peculiarities... We had several episodes where Ezri was dealing with her joining and its consequences.

Sadly the Star Trek show that launched after the end of DS9 was Enterprise and there was no way to have Ezri there.
If they hadn't done a prequel (which imho is never that good of an idea, anyways) they could have had Ezri continue in the next show (whatever that might have been)

Alternate universe Ezri was most intriguing. When alternate universe Kira kissed her, my head exploded.

Yeah, it's the alternate universe where every woman is a lesbian, unlike the "regular" universe where homosexuality doesn't exist.
Maybe the regular universe only has good homosexuals. I realize that doesn't make it any less silly, but...

I thought so, but I just watched WYLB earlier today and I see it a little differently now. In the memory montage, they're all thinking of the people they are saying goodbye to now. Worf has said his goodbyes to Jadzia and believes that she is in Stovokor. All that is left of her in this life is in Ezri Dax's memories, and he's looking at her.

My point. They had a Trill who had been unprepared for Joining, matched with a symbiont who had not been assigned by the symbiosis board, but random luck. The possibilities for the character were myriad, and they had to combine developing her with the Dominion war. There wasn't enough time to do the character justice.

thought that only mirror Kira and mirror Ezri where lesbian or bisexual

Jadzia was as well. "Rejoined", remember?

Mirror Kira had a thing for her counterpart. That's not just bisexual, that's narcissism in its ultimate form.

Worf had plenty of memories with Jadzia on DS9, it would make sense that he'd thought about these while saying goodbye to the station.

It is kind of ridiculous, when you think about it. Jadzia Fax was an essential part of the DS9 crew for six years. Erasing her just for spite seems like bad form.
