I assume the phaser strips are made from programmable matter and just pop up when needed. Or perhaps ships can generate a 'phaser bubble' of sorts that wraps around the hull like polarised Hull plating allowing phaser bursts without the need for a physical placement. So there is no 32rd century visual expression for "big guns".
It was fun for TNG to make the big contrast to the TOS movies there, showing that it's the future by turning beads (which might approximate old-fashioned gunbarrels in twin turrets) into strips (which are sheer scifi). Perhaps DSC can still come up with a fancy idea or two?
I like the asymmetry of those window slits. Perhaps one can open a window anywhere one wants, at the push of an interface? Or at least anywhere in those grooves on the surface.

I'm quite disappointed that future ships use the same phasers and quantum torpedoes. You'd think something new would have come along. The Vengeance in the Kelvin Universe had arcing phasers and (unseen, but designed by ILM) neutron torpedoes.
That''s pretty much my view. I do want Trek to advance in some measure but we get awfully close to magic and magic fighting magic. And, well, I'm not interested in magic. It gets to the point where you're just given a different name to the same thing, or making tech so outlandlshly powerful that they're basically magic and you need to make even more outlandish magic to counteract it.
It usually is. And a lot of people may have more access to it to create continently and reliability. It might be as simple as people just want a familiar tech they can utilize.Maybe post Burn, primitive tech is easier to get working and maintain?
We still don't have a good idea of the subjective or objective time the time wars spanned. Perhaps they go back all the way to the 26th century or so

Also in terms of weapons tech, in STO the latest update introduced two versions of the 32c. Federation phasers - a green standard phaser, and a more cyan phaser refit. This coincides with the introduction of the Crossfield-class refit. Perhaps Federation ships of 3188 are equipped with the green phasers, whereas Discovery's refit earned them the cyan phasers?
Raw materials is raw materials. Matter has to come from somewhere.Them going back to the "shit eating" replicators of the 22nd century would seem to indicate as much, though I'm not clear on exactly why that would be.
Raw materials is raw materials. Matter has to come from somewhere.
So, where is the energy coming from? You need a material of some kind to do the conversion. Not according to TNG. They outright stated it was matter/energy conversion a'la the transporters.
And where did that matter/energy come from? Not according to TNG. They outright stated it was matter/energy conversion a'la the transporters.
And? It has to go somewhere so why not utilize it.No, but there are many ways to make energy without using your waste...
