Well technically it sort of is. The main characters still grew and lived in the pre-TOS time period.
Canon arguments are why we can't have nice things.
Canon arguments are why Trek doesn't grow. It just reuses the same recipe with small variation in ingredients.

Even small variations are a big deal (look at Picard -- first show to feature a non-Starfleet crew).
Shouldn't production still be shut down? IIRC, it's still less than two weeks since they had to shut down because of the guest star's infection.Episode 2 was filming this week.

Actually, I just did some digging, turns out the news about the shut down was April 15, which was over two weeks ago, so I guess they could begin filming again.
It was Disco that had to shut down.
"The good news is that no one else has tested positive and that production and filming have not been affected."
It sounds like they didn't have to shut down like DSC did.

It'd be nice for a series premiere to once again be a two-hour event.
This has the potential to be my favourite Trek ever. I’m hoping it takes some of the brilliance of the Short Treks and some of the more episodic episodes from Discovery (like New Eden and Magic to make the Sanest Man Go Mad) and applies them with a Pike twist. It’s one that I’m trying to ignore because I know it’s far away, but it’s always there, nagging at me.
is that the official logo of the show, with “Star trek” under SNW and in a smaller font? Interesting.
Or they could be filming episodes out of order. That's proud Trek tradition going all the way back to TOS.
