Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

Reviews seem to run the gamut. I’ve been working my way back through the DCEU. It’s all actually better than I remember if the Snyder entries aren’t overlong. (Finished MoS and BvS:UE, working on Joss League and will try to get WW and Aquaman watched before Thursday... we’ll see. I HATED Aquaman.) Since we updated our cell phone plan with AT&T, we’re getting HBO Max with our package so I will watch within the first few days.

I am intrigued though.

I've watched a lot of kids shows as an adult, and I enjoy them just as much the adult shows I watch.
People who write off all kids' shows as automatically shallow and dumb need to get the stick out of their ass, because they're missing some great stuff.
I, for one, thoroughly enjoy Spongebob Squarepants, The Amazing World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go! It may seems stupid for people who casually check it out, but there's some good adult humor in there as well :)

You forgot Suicide Squad.

:barf:

The only thing I really noticed as different between the theatrical Batman V. Superman, and the Ultimate edition was removing Luthor's rant about how he spent his entire childhood studying one painting of Paradise Lost and that all that Jesus bullshit is a Blueprint for the coming conflict.

That just turned me off.

And suddnly it's gone, and the movie is better, now that Luthor has been deFlanderized.

Which scene do you mean? The one where he talks to Finch is fundamentally the same, actually a little longer in the UC, but the god talk isn't until he is speaking to Superman on top of the tower. That said, I don't actually remember the dialogue about him spending his childhood studying the painting. I remember him talking about the painting, and then later on talking about "Daddy's fists and abominations" and all that all powerful/all good stuff.

Never saw it. And frankly forgot about it.

There's a scene near the beginning where Amanda Waller has to sell the idea of the Suicide Squad to the money men in Congress, and one of the reasons is that Superman is dead.

"Spit take"

I had completely forgotten about that.

Made it about halfway through, she was still talking about why she felt such a need to review the movie. I woke up later to the Immigrant Song scene in Ragnarok, courtesy of auto-play.

The lengthy and detailed -- and very positive -- review on RogerEbert.com actually has me half-believing this could be something more than a hate watch:

https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/zack-snyders-justice-league-movie-review-2021

This caught my attention in particular:

That, plus the review invokes the unjustly maligned Superman Returns as a positive point of comparison:

So ... maybe? I'll watch it (eventually) with as open a mind as I can muster, in any case.

(Ninja'ed by Captain_Amasov.)
Was that the earth wobbling a bit on its axis? :p ;)

At this point I think the consensus is Wheadon wasn't the best choice to complete the first version of the movie. Why was he chosen, considering how different are the vision about superhero movies between the two directors?

I think the consensus is that no one was the best choice to complete the first version of the movie. Not under the terms WB set at the time. Whedon just brought an extra dosis of unnecessary hostility to the set to boot, which would've been fixed by hiring anyone else (who isn't just as big of an asshole).

Snyder has always been one to make a "Pretty" movie with alot of good special effects, but his writing is sub par on his best day. So has been all of his DC Films. Will watch this version eventually.

The preamble made me think that it was going to be a negative review, but then it wasn't, which made the first part quite weird.

In other news, Gail Simone loved it:

Here's her post for anyone not wanting to head to Twitter:

Okay. I am not going to post spoilers. But forget all the internet chatter and theories and nonsense.

Agreed.

Just watch it with eyes as fresh as possible.

I seriously doubt those with an agenda (like a few in any DC-related thread on this board) will pay to see JL (think about that) with anything other than their obsessive hatred of Snyder ready to go.

There’s nothing more for me to say at the moment except.. ...I ****ing loved it.

Great!

More from Gail's thread on the film here, this part stood out in particular:

"It is a different take on the JLA. It is not the perfect gods and goddesses that they are often portrayed as. That is a GOOD THING. Every character has an arc. Some stuff that didn’t work in the other cut comes out as the BEST PART of the full version. It has heart and scope and it’s beautiful to look at and often achingly bittersweet at times. But it is not dour, it’s not cynical. I don’t want to say any more specifics. But I loved it, it feels finally, like the other side of the coin to the Marvel films, in a GOOD way."
