Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

Mostly, folks like that have something to prove to themselves, about how they're all growed up and have left "childish" pleasures behind.
I've watched a lot of kids shows as an adult, and I enjoy them just as much the adult shows I watch.
People who write off all kids' shows as automatically shallow and dumb need to get the stick out of their ass, because they're missing some great stuff.

Why do so many often assume "family-friendly" and "all ages" must mean "dumbed down kiddie"?
Don't know. Don't care. If I don't agree with their approach the best way to say so is to not buy it. Snyder has his way of doing things and we pretty much know what that style is. He isn't as clever as he things but I think that applies to many Hollywood directors. They are creative types who have a particular view of the world and spent years learning to hone that skill while distinguishing themselves among their peers. Terms like "pertentious" and "elitist" would be common terms as well.

Family friendly is just that-stuff I have fun with my family. But, I don't treat comic book films automatically as for my family.

I watched the Jurassic World cartoon that's been mentioned here a few times just last month and I'd say it's an excellent show with more excellent character work and actual themes than Bvs. And I don't even like the JW movies.

But you see that never happens; some are so triggered by that which does not fit their isolated view of DC movies/characters, that they waste their time and money (get ready for the especially rattled types who paid for HBOMax only to bitch about JL), and pollute social media with whining. To this day, their whining has not stopped the fandom for Snyder's DC franchise, and the fact WB responded and greenlit the Snyder cut is all the evidence one needs to conclude that there's significant support for the filmmaker's DC vision overall, and next to no one cared about the whiners who believed their opinion ever mattered. It sends them into unhealthy fits of daily rage.

Agreed, because the comic source were not all aimed at families, either.

I struggle to this day to understand the desire to compartmentalize comics in to one preferred format, rather than recognizing that comics have been a variety storytelling platform, and not just one niche population.

The lengthy and detailed -- and very positive -- review on RogerEbert.com actually has me half-believing this could be something more than a hate watch:

https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/zack-snyders-justice-league-movie-review-2021

This caught my attention in particular:
the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Amy Adams) ... delves more deeply into grief than any DCEU film, strikes idealistic romantic notes reminiscent of the Christopher Reeve era, and even gets into the "Monkey's Paw" aspect of bringing a dead superhero back to life.

That, plus the review invokes the unjustly maligned Superman Returns as a positive point of comparison:
It's a corporate product that feels as if it sprung from a fever dream, like "Superman Returns"

So ... maybe? I'll watch it (eventually) with as open a mind as I can muster, in any case.
