Can't believe they'll stay gone for that much longer. Especially since a couple of books now have back-up features.

I hope they come out physically faster than the current Superman run.

My guess is the folks he rescued gave the name by combining his name with Shazam's.

The two series I've been missing for awhile are the Justice Society and LSH. Bendis was taking his time to get the story up and running but I liked his world building on the new title. It is beginning to look like it's been cancelled, but I hope I'm wrong.

They are both part of the May solicits.

And again, why? If they know him under the name Black Adam, and he's not telling them otherwise, why would they do that?

Perhaps English isn't their first language.

Shaz A'Dam? I am sure something like that would cause a stir.

English isn't my first language, and I can tell you, everybody knows the word 'black'. Especially those who can speak English, as those talking to Superman in those pages. Even if they didn't, they'd recognize it as part of a name. Or they'd have a translated version, like "Adam Negro", "Adam Noir" or "Schwarzer Adam", or they'd refer to him as his original name of Teth-Adam. They would not make a name up, especially not in a pun-way as "Shazadam".

Why are you grasping for straws? Is it so hard to admit to yourself that Johnston was right about this?

There's more Legion on the way. They just haven't got to the point where they're ready to announce yet.

Regarding the future of the book Bendis says:

"I think you can kind of tell from the jam issues and the fill-ins and the level of quality, attempting to keep it at the highest quality possible, yet still delivering that very special Legion feeling…instead of fill-ins that may not be up to the quality that we were doing, we’ll stop, get a story ready to go, and solicit it when it’s time. There’s more to come.

I know that’s frustrating for some people and some people just want it monthly. I get that, but not all books are created in the same way. It’s art. Even though it’s commercial art, it is art. The pandemic also takes a lot out of the schedule. When we’re ready, we’ll put out more. We’re planning stuff that connects to what’s going on in Justice League as well. Not to connect the two, but that is 100% within what’s happening."

Thanks for that. It was a delight to have the Legion back after far too many years, and I hated to think they were going to be sent to wander the wilderness again, before this new incarnation even really got started. Liked what Bendis was doing with the book, and especially loved this version of Imra (always my favorite Legionnaire).

I haven't read that specific book, but it sounds like they're taking a smart approach to it. I always prefer quality over quantity, if they need to take their time to put out a quality product, then I'd rather they do that than rush out bad products.

Back when Rebirth was still fresh, they brought back the occasional mini-series of characters who wouldn't carry their own ongoing series, and I really appreciated that, both for giving those characters the spotlight, and for not overly burdening my wallet. In a way, this is similar. Maybe the Legion nowadays would suffer in sales if they did fill-in issues, and DC still publishes more than enough books I want to buy.

On the Milestone front, here are the new designs for Satic and the villain Hotstreak:

More of a portmanteau than a pun. I'm saying they were somewhat aware of Shazam and Black Adam and combined the names.
At best he'll be partially right. There's no way they're rebranding a character who's about to be in film using the character's original name.

Because that's what people do to the person who saved their lives.

First off, the movie isn't even shooting yet, there'd be plenty of time to change it. The name change might even have been an idea coming from the movie people, asking the comics people to establish it first to give it legitimacy, or as a test balloon for how it would be received.

Second, he's got the fucking pages. He's not partially right at best, he's partially right at least. And considering all the other options you and others come up with don't hold up under scrutiny, yeah, I'm more convinced than ever that he was absolutely right.

I doubt he stopped and gave them a full bio with an 8x10 glossy and pronounciation guide. They're rescued by a Shazam looking guy who they think might be called "Adam". So they come up with the name Shazadam.
They've been pumping out the name Black Adam for years. The Rock uses that as the name of the film. Not seeing that up for change.

If he's not right about renaming the character but is right about a person in the book using the name "Shazadam" he's only partially right. Rich was pushing the "OMG! Black Adam has been renamed" narrative, yes? Which is typical of his brand of journalism. Always take the most sensational tack.

Ugh, as someone who is a huge fan of the real Legion (the version that ran from the 50s until Crisis on Infinite Earths and was brought back by Geoff Johns and lasted until a bit after the New 52), Bendis's legion of super millennials can stay dead. It reads like the old Bob Haney Teen Titans run, where a middle aged man is trying to write for "the kids", except Haney's Titans is at least campy fun. I don't know how Bendis made a version of the Legion worse then Mark waid's two separate attempts, but I guess being the worst at something is becoming Bendis'. Its possibly the worst work of Bendis' career in my opinion, so of course its coming back to haunt DC while actual good books like Hawkman just get cancelled.

I certainly like the new take on the Legion and the attempt to update their world. What I didn't like was that a lot of characters got short changed and after twelve issues we still know very little about them. I also think the book would have benefited by leaving Jon Kent out of it.

Like a lot of Bendis' work it's unfocused and scattershot, IMO.
