Obviously it'll be a prequel called Firefly High.

I don't even know who the target audience would be for a Disneyfied Firefly. It's clearly not for the old fans which I think are kind of small due to the show being a cult hit and not mainstream hit. Younger kids aren't familiar with the name and the universe itself is kind of hard to explain to new fans. You know part of me even gets a little tinfoil haty wondering if this is someone trying to piss off Whedon due to some grudge from when I guess their was lots of conflict when he was making Avengers: Age of Ultron. Basically screwing over one of his beloved crawn jewels as payback.

I still say it's only a matter of time before they start remaking shows that haven't been made yet.

Dueling Batman shows. On The CW, Batman is all about angst and forest scenes, and his superpowered villains have a tendency to lose their superpowers for an extended period of time so they can save money. On CBS, Batman is an episodic procedural where he cracks one-liners before the title screen and every single one of his villains is a methodical killer.

It's no worse than starting a new series. Emotional knee jerk reactions aside, Firefly is a perfect candidate for a reboot. A short lived series universally agreed to have a good premise at it's core. I'm sure the Mandalorian's "Western in Space" vibe convinced some people there's a wider market for the genre.

It can even be a new unrelated crew to the first one. Space is a big place, and it's not unreasonable to think there would be more of these types of crews.

And get Nickel Creek to do the theme song, as many felt it sounded like Nickel Creek's style anyway.

Or maybe they think they can turn a rebooted Firefly into another The Mandalorian. Reevers are now cute adorable teddy bear creature with wide expressive eyes and pink fuzzy hair all over their body. Mal bonds with one and let's it become part the crew and is called Baby Reever. He is always playing with Wash's dinasaurs. He likes to eat Strawberries with Kaylee. He and River do funny dancing with each other. Jayne likes to act tough like he doesn't like the Runt but when people isn't looking it lets the little rugrat wear his hat his mom made for him.

And before there were films, writers were “re-making” books. Shakespeare wasn’t even the first to tell some of his stories.

Humans have been retelling stories since humans started telling them. It’s not like it’s a new thing.

True. Romeo and Juliet is a retelling of the Greek myth Pyramus and Thisbe.

Adam and Eve were from rival families?

Wow, Deadline butchered the shit out of that story. Here's Entertainment Weekly's story (which was Deadline's source), which makes a lot more sense. It doesn't look like Michael Landon Jr. is involved with this new version at all. (OTOH, the prospect of Alison Arngrim playing Mrs. Oleson would be amazing. :D )

The paragraph that's so confusing is actually a poorly written account of how the original series came to be — Ed Friendly acquired the rights to the books, commissioned Blanche Hanalis to write a teleplay, and got Landon (Sr.) to direct the pilot movie that aired back in 1974. I can't find anything to back up their assertion that Landon only took the directing gig on the condition that he play Charles, but when the show went to series, he was star and executive producer, and wrote and directed a ton of episodes.

Ahh well that makes a lot more sense. Deadline really messed that up, combining new and old in one paragraph, so no wonder I was so confused.

I have to wonder if this is happening due to the success of the Anne of Green Gables reboot.
