Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Suppose that they are going to make Grogu the heart and emotional center of the entire shared narrative that they're trying to create here? What if the Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Marshalls of the New Republic and the Book of Boba Fett are all separate branches of the larger tale of Grogu?

Eh, I don't think that's a good idea. Grogu's story is basically over now. He's "home."

having him passed around like a football to random character after random character would really be clumsy, would damage the character and undercut the effectiveness of this episode.

Well I don't think Star Wars ever made me cry before. Great stuff. I guess we won't be seeing Grogu too much next season. I don't have an issue with that. But maybe I'm wrong, who knows.

It will fundamentally change the show so much they'd be wise to let it end here.

Season 3 is all set to go, and I think it's better actually.

Well that was a shock. Even though it's the most logical way to go from a storytelling and lore perspective, I honestly didn't think they'd actually go and do it! I mean, who would have thought they could pull it off and make Artoo look that young again! Oh and his human sidekick was back too I guess...

Oh and it's fun to see Bib Fortuna back agai--- Oh. Nevermind then...

OK seriously now: am I the only one that thought Cara should have jumped to attention? I mean sure, he's resigned his commission, but he was still an Alliance Commander. Plus how can any Alderaanian NOT know who he is nor feel the need to salute because: 1) blew up the Death Star that killed Alderaan, and 2) is kinda/sorta but not really Alderaanian royalty.

OK, exactly how many Imperials made it off the Death Star? This is what? The 4th or 5th one known to have witnessed Alderaan's destruction and *not* died over Yavin?

Anyone else think it's wild that they went to the trouble of making a live action quality model of a Mandalorian Gauntlet fighter...and NOT use it in the space battle? Not complaining, just seems like an odd choice.

Was that supposed to be Rystáll behind the throne? Speaking of the throne, interesting that it has Old Tongue writing all over it. A b'omarr artefact?

Something about the rules surrounding the ownership of the Darksaber doesn't sit right with me; why could Bo-Katan accept it from Sabine without a fight, but can't do the same with Dyn? Was it because Sabine never defeated Maul? If that's the case then by rights it should belong to Ahsoka, no?

I thought the guy playing Bib sounded familiar. It's Matt Wood! And I love how all of his huttese is just random lines Sebulba's and Greedo's dialogue. They even got in a maclunkey!

That entire end sequence was perfection.

The back and forth between the guy and the bridge. The sheer look of terror on Gideon's face as he watches his "perfect soldiers" rendered completely trivial and useless. The last trip down the hallway invoking Vader's walk in R1. And the guy entering the blast doors again invoking Vader's iconic entrance.

The characters all uncertain and fearful about who this guy is - friend or foe. While everyone at home is trying really hard not to have a crisis.

That's how it's done.

That was my one issue also. If the person who currently owns it wants to give it up, that should obviously be their choice. They shouldn't have to fight. What if Moff dies accidently or he loses the blade and Bo-Katan just stumbles across it? She can't wield it?

Also, I dunno maybe I've gotten used to the whole 'deep fake' thing, but I actually found whatever they did to his voice more off-putting than the CGI itself.

Mark Hamill is listed in the credits on IMDb. Now maybe they had to credit him for using the likeness? I don't know. I guess we will find out.

Little disappointed they used Robert Rodriguez for the earlier episode and left the only battle scene in the entire franchise featuring Luke in his prime to Peyton Reed to direct.

Luke looked and sounded wonky but if they couldn't make Leia and Tarkin look/sound normal with a Star Wars feature film budget, a TV show was never going to pull it off anyway, so whatever.

So, Kylo definitely killed Grogu, right?

No, union rules means he would have actually had to have been part of the performance. In this case I suspect he just leant his voice. I did notice that it sounded a little distorted, as if they tried pitching it up a little to make him sound more like his younger self.

It was perfectly directed.

Rodriquez is dreadfully overrated. He would have overdone everything and completely ruined it.

Good. It SHOULD have been overdone. Luke should have crushed them like a God. It should have been reminiscent of Vader in Rogue One. Instead it was bland and boring. Ahsoka's fight scenes were much more impressive.

Peyton is fine. But he's not an action director. Which Rodriguez is.

Okay then.

Skywalker and Artoo. Not a terrible rendition of a young Hamill. Bye Grogu? What does Din having the darksaber mean for Bo Katan, the Mandalorians as a whole and the future of the series? And not sure I really need (or want) whatever “The Book of Boba Fett” is going to be.

(And obviously Reed was chosen for directing this one because he has experience de-aging actors.)

He moved acted with purpose and deliberate intent. Exerted no more force than what was needed. Calm and collected. Focused.

In other words the fundamental difference between Jedi and Sith.

Lol, he absolutely excerted more force than was needed. Dude brought down star destroyers with the force, he couldn't crush their CPUs and just walk through the ship with them dropping around him? That'd take a lot less exertion and be a lot more precise and calm than swinging a lightsaber.

It's a fight scene. It's supposed to look cool. It's supposed to show off his power. They tried to do that. But they used a comedy director to shoot it.

I'm not saying it was a bad episode. I'm saying this was the first time in 30+ years we've seen Luke in the full flush of his powers, and the results were disappointing when compared to other action scenes we've had this very season, let alone the franchise as a whole. And that I wish they'd used the bonafide acclaimed action director for it.

Edit to add: I totally would have loved for him to walk through and just have the troopers crumple before him as he destroys their internals with the force, without him even having to draw his lightsaber. Would have also gotten the point across that this is a being on another level of power.

It was truly amazing. I loved it. Crushing that Dark Trooper was epic. I want more.
