Pretty sure they're used interchangeably. The Mirror Universe was called "an alternate reality" in ENT, and so was the Kelvin Timeline in ST'09.

Yet another retcon from ENT. It was established as early as TOS that it was a parallel universe.
In strictest sense, the Kelvin timeline is an alternate reality, in that something changed the timeline. The MU is parallel, in that it runs alongside the Prime universe and not crossing it, nor interfering with it.
I'm still not convinced the section 31 series is going to be a thing so i'm wondering if this will lead to prime georgiou returning some how. Perhaps mirror georgiou goes back to the battle of binaries and takes prime georgiou's place and sends prime georgiou to the future.
The next two episodes are written by the creators of the S31 show which honestly leads more to the idea of it setting up the S31 show.
I don't know. CBS seems to have changed tack some what and are doing things that appeal more to the fanbase. Changing the klingons, the pike series, and moving discovery to the future and no longer effecting 'canon' all seem based on fan response. I'm impartial to a s31 series, but i honestly don't think it will have mass appeal and will just get ripped apart by the haters and frankly i think cbs knows this.
They didn't do that to please the Fanbase.

I just don't like the idea of them going that hard on the fan feedback. They shouldn't compromise their artistic vision because the fans didn't like it.

Now I'm really high and everything is so funny hahahah. They really don't know what to do whit 09 shit and stuff they destroyed from real canon. Actually everything they needed after ENT was off, they needed 10-15 years of pause and with this production budget of Discovery they needed to create something POST-NEMESIS but something CANON. Playing with TOS era in '09 films and Discovery was wrong. There was no need for that.

In other news: DSC takes place in the 32nd Century now. But you probably already knew that because you said "I'm really high and everything is so funny hahahah." I'm going to guess you just watched "That Hope Is You". If that's all you got out of the episode, you didn't get anything out of it. If that's all you saw, then you weren't really watching. You were just looking to find things wrong with it. And that gave you the red meat you were looking for, when taken out of context.
I'm going to make the mistake of responding seriously now: making someone feel high and giggly and open is a way for the Emerald Chain to get people to talk. It works better than torture or interrogation techniques where the captured are predisposed to lie.
