This is probably just a me thing, but now whenever I read "Adira", my mind's ear hears it in Peter Jurasik/Londo.

And I thought of "If Star Trek generation ship was hit by asteroid, it was probably targeted by Centari mass driver.

Anyway, this episode...

I had some reservations about the fact how this show is treating sudden rise to prominence when it comes to secondary characters, BUT I think this one did a simply terrific job with Adira. She is not just token trans-character, but a legitimate and well written person and the exposition about Grey and her journey to symbiont connection was turned into tear inducing drama. I did not like how Burnham was included into her journey on Tril, however I can live with that. Considering certain cameos from trailers, I kinda hoped new Federation center will be revealed to be somewhere in Cardassian space and... Well, that can still happen.

OK, I didn´t "care" too much about Saru´s plotline, still effective for what it was.

The first episode this season I genuinely loved!

given Michael’s reaction I guess the federation is now based on Vulcan or Q’Nos. Or somewhere else that has some importance to her.

Would've been wonderful to see Tobin, Emony, Curzon, Jadzia, Ezri, etc featured. And would've been cool to see Terry Farrell and Nicole de Boer replaying their characters, even if it's only for 30 seconds or less.
If that symbiont ended up being Dax that would be me done with DIS for another season. Delighted we got someone new instead

Space Hitler or not, Georgiou is more fun than all the characters of Voyager and Enterprise put together. Michelle Yeoh is a scene-stealing delight, and I for one love the fact there’s an unpredictable wild card character like that. Who knows where they’re going with it, or what side she’ll ultimately end up on. The uncertainty is part of the fun.
I like characters to be in a show because they fit the plot, have a purpose in the show and make sense but what you describe is fan service to me.

Fair episode. Deals with Adira's background and the crew's issues. Looks like Zora from Calypso is born. Next week's episode seems a lot more interesting, though.

So. You noticed it too.

Discovery is particularly large to my eyes, but the word "monster" being applied to the ship by anyone on the senior staff was new to me. Is this a side effect of their stress issues, or some undercurrent of their thinking that was there all along?

I took 'monster' as referring to the size of the ship.

Heard a dog bark when they entered the caves. I even rewound a few seconds to make sure it was the episode.

By the way, 10. Great character and great intro with Adira. Looking forward to more HeadGray.

A lot of the episode reminded me of Avatar: The Last Airbender with previous avatars/hosts being accessible to the current one.

No Reno in sight btw, which is strange. One would think she would have been one of the guests at the banquet.
She forgot.

I really, really wanted to love this episode. And for the most part I did, but so far (and I hope this changes) I’m not feeling Adira as a character, nor did I really feel the chemistry with Gray. And I hate that. As I love the fact that discovery is expanding representation. But initial feelings about characters or actors can change dramatically. I really hated The bombast of early Stewart, and I love the actor. I felt disconnect from Sisko for nearly three years. Give the man a goatee and later a shave and I felt he came to life. I thought Dax was boring as hell, but ever since the circle trilogy I began to love the character and what the actress brought.

So here’s hoping it’s just me.

So far outside of a small complaint here and small complaint there, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this season.

Would be interesting if in 900 years the Cardassians have become our friends against all odds. That would be something I'd like to see.

I'd expect Cardassia to join UFP about 50 years to maybe a century after DS9.
Post DS9 Cardassia would be in a similar situation that Bajor was after being occupied for 50 years.
Remember that the Dominion started eradicating the population of Cardassia in the next to last episode of DS9...
I'm sure the Federation would have tried providing aid to it (after imposing heavy restrictions on them), and politically, they could have seen continued support for non-military Cardassia - which would probably lead to better relations long term with Bajor and UFP at large.

The asteroid hitting the ship came off rather comical to me. Was Zapp Brannigan piloting the vessel?

I don't think the personified evil would have a good heart deep down
Sounds like you’re asking for a more one dimensional character in Georgiou. Her duality, the utter ruthlessness mixed with some compassion, is what makes her interesting to me. She’d be a lot less compelling as totally evil or totally good.

But besides all that, The Emperor is no doubt a product of her environment and because her environment has changed, she no longer has a need to be exactly who she was in the Mirror universe. Lord knows that not being under constant threat of assassination alone has to have allowed her to ease up a bit.

But I really think she is just has a compassionate streak that existed before Burnha, brought her to the prime-verse.

noticed that, and also the medical log in the beginning. I suspect that some of the writers have now forgotten he is not CMO.

correct, a few days, with huge strain on the organism and the symbiont totally suppressing the host, hardly a successful joining.

If the unnamed CMO (like the unnamed captain left on Vulcan 1000+ years ago) did not stay with them, he's not the CMO anymore, and it probably is Culber, since he outranks Pollard, and so far those are the only two doctors shown onboard. The advantage of that move is also that a lot of ship crew seen or supposed, like Chief of Engineering, the black-badge guards, etc, are probably gone now. Kind of broom to sweep out the last of the Fullerisms, though ironically, by using his original idea, of jumping into another time period.

Maybe Klingons in this period have 6 of everything and are bald.. but only on half of their heads.
