I'm still not sure how I feel about Grey being, for lack of a better word, a Trill ghost. Obviously, Field of Fire sets it up as a possibility. On the other hand, it could look more like Baltar-Six. Not writing the idea off, and I am interested in seeing where it goes.

Yeah, I see it as more like Baltar-Six. It is a hallucination brought on by the strong connection that Adira and Grey had and the personality of Grey in the symbiote interacting with Adira.

I don't think of Grey as a "ghost" it's more like a mental image that only Adira can see.
And it's specifically a reference for the viewing audience, since having Adira constantly just talking to herself would be even weirder.

It's a writing staple for TV and Movies anyway.

The dinner scene would have been better if space Hitler was the only one that didn’t leave the table
The only reason she left was because the fight was over and the wine was all hers.

Haven't read any comments yet, but here we go...

Another good one!

Adira and Gray’s story was rather touching, and although I’m a little surprised that with as much pre-release information was given to the two new characters that Gray died (although it was predictable when we first saw him). And of course, they’ve done a workaround with her appearing in Adira’s head.

I liked that Culber really said the thing out loud about Burnham and her being a “responsibility horder.”

The real stand out story for me was dealing with the crew’s PTSD. From fighting a war, discovering that there’s a whole other you in an alternate universe and that the guy you’ve been following is a complete sociopath, to literally facing the potential end of the galaxy and travelling almost a millennium into the future? I think many would suffer from that. It’s a lot for anyone to deal with. And that there’s no real resolution feels real to me. Giving Detmer more to do is always a plus in my book and I think her reaction felt real as well. Her haiku was a little over the top, but perhaps that’s the point.

With the “appearance” of Zora, it confirms a few theories and indicates that perhaps “Calypso” will be a part of the continuity at some point. We’ll see how it goes.

Oh, and Tal wasn’t Dax. Why am I not surprised?

Overall, 9/10.

I'm not literally referring to Grey as a ghost. I know better, obviously, from my reference to the DS9 episode.

Despite of how critical I've been of Disco in S3 regarding technology, I have been enjoying it... this latest episode was good.

I have a hankering suspicion that Culber's haiku messup was a real one - aka, a blooper... and they just decided to keep it in.

Zora comes alive (yay)... we got a snippet, but I wonder, did they use the same voice actress for Zora from Calypso... she sounded similar in certain bits?
Ooh... when she first spoke to Saru and opened with a laughter... that was a bit creepy... but I think it was a combo of music and multiple voices she was trying that did that.

I liked interactions between Grey and Adira... and as for Grey being there in ghost form... he could be there temporarily to help Adira 'transition'.

Interesting notion: in the 24th century there were too many hosts (about 50% of the entire population) to join with the symbionts, and in the 32nd, there seems to be very few or none.

Ok... so the Burn decimated Trill's population... this implies it wasn't just ships etc. that suffered. Planets as well were apparently in danger... either that, or because of large migrations that occurred when the Federation existed, most viable Trill capable of joining were off-world... many of which may have died - so that leaves the question as to why hadn't the Trill tried to repopulate... or did they take a harder hit during the Burn than most?

Fun fact... we've seen 6 previous Tal hosts in total... and if on average each covered 'roughly' 150 years long period (some of them certainly don't look old enough... except Senna Tal - but that could be that biological immortality took place at some point and they decided each to give the symbiont a chance to grow with different hosts over time... or the other hosts simply died near a 150 year period... and by the time Senna Tal came to be, life extension technology may have not been available).

Will be interesting to learn more about Adira's previous hosts and learn of their lives and how Tal ended up in different hosts (like we did with Dax).

That was a very fine episode. Just about every character beat landed beautifully. Very good use of the A/B story format. Possibly the best Discovery episode to date. 9/10 from me...

That was a beautiful episode. I'm surprised to say that I found it very affecting. Discovery's emotional beats often don't land for me, but here they all did.

I'm thrilled that it appears that what's going on with Detmer isn't some big sci-fi plot... she's just having a hard time. They all are, but they are healing.

Saru is learning to navigate his role as the Captain, but he's doing it effectively. I'm enjoying that journey.

I like that they swerved the sphere data plot towards "Calypso." That was well done. I'm intrigued.

It's an interesting development that the Trill seem to be now genuinely running out of suitable hosts for the symbionts. I'm interested to see how Adira Tal's quest to find non-Trill hosts develops.

All in all this episode was very well done.

It would help if we actually knew anything about Detmer. I mean she was composing a farewell letter to a "best friend" she'll never see again last season. Does she have any family or friends she'll miss (this is actually a problem that's gone unaddressed for the entire crew). Why aren't she and the crew scrounging records on what happened to those they left behind?

Memory Alpha said Detmer was dating some guy. Did he come along to the future too or was left behind? Considering he's listed as literally https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Unnamed_USS_Discovery_personnel#Date_001 on Memory Alpha and the actor wasn't even credited for the role, we probably won't ever hear about him again.

Also have Culber and Burnham actually talked together before much? And his ditching Adira on Trill--how can he possibly say he's not needed? A human and Trill have never been joined together before, so how can he be so sure there won't be medical complications? The ship had no communication with Burnham and Adira the whole time? Not even "Burnham to Discovery, things on Trill have gone wrong standby for beamup!"

I would guess there is still a bit of shock going on for the crew.

I don't need a whole lot about Detmer to feel for her. She's a person and suffering-sufficient for me.

I'll grant that the away team should have been bigger. Indeed, as a diplomatic mission, should it not have included Saru?
