That has been my guess. But evil Vulcans. Think of ruthless efficiency of the type that made the trains run on time in NAZI Germany. A Federation run by a bunch of Mirror Spocks!

That would be an interesting development to explore.

I was really worried we were gonna get an Andromeda earth when the shield went up so glad it wasnt wasteland earth.

Im not one to normally flog the very dead horse that is "modern Trek is too dark" but non Fed Earth I felt was a step too far. I think earth being a small faction thinking they were the real Fed despite just being Earth would be better

I don't know what the writers are thinking. But, my guess has been that the Burn was caused by a degradation of the fabric of space. We had some hints in the season opener that it's more fragile now. This degradation will become a climate change symbol. It affects a lot of things, such as the Burn with dilithium and possibly subspace. The weakening of the fabric of space itself could explain how the Burn happened everywhere at the same time. It just reached a critical point. The Burn might even more of the canary in the coal mine, with further effects coming.

I don't know. That's where my mind went. But, we'll see!

I think Michael and Book's story, their repartee, and Michael's change in attitude and feeling of distances from Discovery makes more sense if the gap was more like five years. I suppose the point is that she didn't know it was only going to be a year so they intimated that she accelerated the process to adapt more effectively. But, five years feels like a better gap to me.

Or when they started using self-sealing stem bolts rather than the ones that weren't self-sealing!

You're jumping to conclusions about the Burn. We just don't know yet. You might as well be patient and wait to see how it unfolds.

Five years would better explain the hair growth (which is admittedly nothing compared to Worf growing a ponytail between two sixth season TNG episodes!)

Just finished the Mando’s season 2 premiere and I’ve been grinning for the whole episode. Playing safe? Yes, but I’m still enjoying it more than discovery.

great to learn new things, thanks. :)

Precisely. But I don’t envy the translators when they have to translate concepts that are available in the source language but still far from being fleshed out in the destination one.

    Exactly this! Couldn’t agree more.

    Same here.

on the other hand, I hope they fleshed out fast hair grow tech after the 24th century.

By the way, anyone knows what class the destroyed federation ship was? I couldn’t really recognize it.

Ok, so the Federation may have banned time travel, but that doesn't mean the Klingons for example did. And the Klingons have a ton of time crystals on Boreth right? Why didn't any of them go back in time to undo the Burn?

They can't undo it if they don't know the cause.

Anybody else have a fear that 16 year old genius Adira Tal could turn into another TNG season 1 Wesley Crusher? Will we get a "Shut up, Adira!" from Saru?

I don't think we will... but it won't stop people from trying to make forced comparisons.

Since Wesley was what almost kept me engaged with TNG until I couldn't handle Picard any more I can say I would be OK with that.
Unfortunately, this is the inevitable way of fandom to find insipid connections to draw ire.

They have been thrown out of sync with the rest of time due to disruptions in subspace.

It's a cultural thing mostly, with how complicated a society want to get in that regard. IIRC, Germany had 5 or so different solutions, mostly by inventing new pronouns or just using the letter x and then settled on using the english word "they" a short time ago. Austria, same language, just shrugged and used the "Sie" from the start, which is the exact translation of "they" and is used (and was always used) the same way. because you can either overcomplicate it, or just know your language enough to see that the words were always there.

I posted it earlier, but I really feel like this season of Discovery has been the mashup of Star Trek and Star Wars that I've wanted for a long time. Somehow, mashing these things up has made it feel more like both Star Trek and Star Wars, and mostly in good ways.
