I've gone over my first Taron & Winúnŋa story, and I didn't end up changing a whole lot. Mostly the Sioux names, a couple of re-phrasing bits, but nothing major. Which was good, as this meant I didn't need to change a lot in the English translation, either.
Instead of posting them in text here, I'm looking into setting up an account at a pdf hosting website and then posting a download link, so I don't need two or three posts whenever I want to share a story with you guys. This way, I can also share the German original for those few interested.
Will post those links over the weekend, then onto going over the second story.

Does Siouxan composit a lot of small words into large complex words?
I'm writing 2 stories at the moment and they are both connected. Writers block however has got me for the last few months, I know exactly what my characters are meant to do and where they are meant to go just the actual words won't come out. I have a unique setting though where Earth isn't the only planet named Earth but there historically are 63 planets called Earth in the universe.
It's actually Siouan, without the x. Not that I'm a big expert, I don't speak the language and can't really answer your question. I did some research, but mostly names and culture. And the names and words I used in the story are exactly three, two names and one word.
The names are the titular Winúnŋa, chosen because of a legend of the Dakota tribes, and tbh because it's the source of Winona Ryder's first name (as if you guys couldn't figure that out yourselves), and her father Ógle Lúta, which was hard to choose, as that character is presented to have committed genocide, and it's not something I wanted to really attribute to any actual Sioux. In the end, I chose the name Ógle Lúta really because it translates as Red Shirt, which I couldn't resist using, and to put a disclaimer at the beginning disassociating the historical Joseph Red Shirt from the character in the story.
The word is Nadouessioux, which is the actual word for the people before the French explorers shortened it to Sioux, and since my story is set in a fictional age before recorded history, I thought it appropriate to use the longer, original word.

Okay, decided to use a good old "ficticious, please don't sue me" disclaimer they use in media, instead of a specific note on Ògle Lùta. But I would still encourage everyone to look into the biography of Joseph Red Shirt, very interesting life. He was with Buffallo Bill's show, even going to Europe and therefore affecting the image Europeans had of the American Indians. He also was one of the main chiefs of the Sioux during his life, second only to he generally strove towards peace between the Native Americans and the Whites.

I decided to change the setting of my story. Watching The 100 and The Walking Dead shows has inspired me to make it a post-apocalypse instead of regular modern day. And honestly, I think this works better, because this way I'm going to have all of the supernatural and magical stuff happening out in the open, rather than trying to hide it. It was getting hard to buy that all of the stuff I was plotting out was going be able to happen without the regular humans not noticing. This way there I don't have to worry about trying to come up with excuses for how nobody knows about this stuff, or ways to hide it, it can just happen.
I had already planned on all of it coming out in the open at the end of the first story arc anyways, so now
I'd also had the characters constantly jumping back and forth between our world and a magic world, and trying to keep track of the two timelines, and decide what was going to happen in which world was getting to be kind of a pain in the ass.
So I started a new outline from scratch, and made the necessary changes to the prologue.
I'm feeling a lot better about this version of it than I had the other one.
I've actually been thinking about posting the prologue on here if you guys are interested.
I had already planned on all of it coming out in the open at the end of the first story arc anyways, so now

I am such an ass.
So I made all that fuss about changing the name of my character Uénunna to Winúnŋa, to make it a correct spelling, when the correct spelling really is Winúŋna. So, I'm gonna have to go over both the German and English versions of the first story, "Change of Hearts", again.
On the bright side, I just got done going over the second story, and am now pretty satisfied with it. It's titled "Grund zu Kämpfen", or "Reason to Fight", and this one needed a few more changes than the first one. Mostly about consistency, but also I changed the name of a people from "Picts" to "Caledonians", for one to differentiate from Robert E. Howard's works, but also because the actual people called themselves Caledonians, while Picts was what the Romans called them.
Now, to make an English translation of story #2, and then I already have some good ideas for the next one.
I've taken another look around on PDF hosting sites. I'm afraid, all of the ones I found have "advertising" (meaning pop-ups), or require a paid membership. If anybody else knows of a way to share PDFs without pop-ups or payments, please, let me know.

I'm now two pages into the third Taron & Winúŋna story. I'm hoping to finish it soon enough so I can do printings of these first three stories to hand out as gifts to family and friends on Christmas.
I'm also looking at two weeks off work starting next week, and I'm planning on doing the English version of the second story, "Reason to Fight", during that time. Not much else to do during lockdown.
