But she's a freaking Romulan....... Why would you even not be suspicious of a Rommie wanting to join Starfleet and be in a high ranking position.

Yeah, Oh was a Romulan without brow ridges. She looked like a Vulcan and behaved more or less like one, so why suspect her?

 

But not a good look on anybody.

 

True enough I guess. But still the show feels a bit off I'm just not getting into it but hoping the second season is better.
