New Hollywood Reporter Interview with Alex Kurtzman

The beginning is interesting, when he points out how well S3 turned out to fit with our lockdown situation that happened just after S3 wrapped. But then it's mostly about the challenges and cost of shooting stuff during the pandemic, and then Silence of the Lambs at the end. I didn't hear anything new

This settles that then. The rumors of S4 / S5 shooting back to back had me thinking that would be the end of Disco. 5 seasons would be fine with all the other Trek they have planned, but I will certainly be fine with 7 or more, especially if the new era is interesting.

3 was fine for TOS.
Three seasons of TOS would be like eight seasons of a new series.

So an equal number of seasons in this case isn't an equitable number of seasons. Don't get me wrong. I think a show should run as many seasons as it makes sense for it to. But I think Discovery can do more than three or four.

I think that largely shows begin to feel stale after three or four seasons. There are exceptions, but I'd rather a show leave on a high note than wearing out its welcome.

DSC's premise has changed every season. First season = Klingon war/Mirror Universe. Second season = The Pike Show/Mystery of the Red Angel. Third season = Andromeda Trek. This might be a good thing, or a bad thing. It ultimately came out of the fact that the people in charge of the show simply didn't know what their show was supposed to be about. Well, maybe a different premise every season is what the show is supposed to be about. It's unintentional to be sure, but it might give them the chance to have more seasons than just three (which was what I predicted would happen.)

Same here. And, I grow weary of Discovery bashing and feel it's time for it to end on a high note and leave the people wanting more, and be done.

Being critical of it and bashing it are two different things. I think we've generally moved past the bashing for the sake of bashing part of the program here.
Some have.

But, I still want Star Trek to move on were people just enjoy things. And yeah. Let each show end with people wanting more.
