Spoilers Huge legacy character revealed as Prodigy lead!

Not at all. I just wish DS9 got thrown a few more bones. TOS, TNG, VOY, and ENT seem to get them the most.
But, why does it need it? It receives the accolades now and it has top tier recognition. What more bones does it need?

The more they reference TNG and VOY, the more likely it becomes that they'll also reference DS9

I think a lot of people would like to see what happened to some of the characters the show pampered so much and what influence the happenings had on the galaxy in the long run. DS9 had actually a lot of common with todays era of television, but it seems to be the least recognized one.

This is what I mean.

I mean, Quark gets a name drop in Picard.

But, this sounds like a "Where are they now?" type of segment in Star Trek.

I don't think that's a bad use of the Short Treks format, TBH.

I mean, you should be able to come up with even an interesting 10-minute short about what Neelix or Harry Kim are up to now.

Sisko is the one Captain who has gotten a modicum of closure (even though it kinda sucked), so I actually am in the minority in that I hope he stays gone. Narratively, his story seems over and there isn't more to tell. The aftermath should be lived through those he affected (Jake, Kira, his other child perhaps).

I'm still confused by Janeway's presence on Prodigy. All we know is that the show is about a group of "lawless teens" on a "derelict ship". Why is "Captain Janeway" involved? I thought, perhaps, she was going to be pursuing these teens, either during the Endgame-Nemesis interval or later (and they just called her Captain for convenience), but her statements about mentoring or captaining these teens suggests otherwise.

Is she one of the teens? Is this set at some point in the early 2350s? Or is she (as suggested), just a hologram of classic Captain Janeway utilized by the teens for whatever reason. Perhaps for viewscreen purposes to scare aliens and impress upon them that this is a real Starfleet ship and not just some stolen vessel.

I don't think she's the lead, unless she's one of the teens, and I don't think that's what Mulgrew implied with her interview. She seems to be a secondary character. I can't find any source (other than this thread) that states that Mulgrew is going to be the lead actress on Prodigy.

I think whatever story they come up with will be dissatisfying no matter what.

I think that some fans want to revisit the characters and setting; the finale left the door open for a lot of stories in the aftermath of the events in the series. PIC was a mostly successful revisitation of Picard, and I think people whose hearts lie with DS9 can easily imagine something similar in that part of the franchise.

Given the anger and pushback against Picard not having a "happily ever after" I strong suspect that the fan's imaginations are sufficient on this point, and revisiting it will be disappointing.

"The star of Star Trek Prodigy, Kate Mulgrew, as Captain Kathryn Janeway"
I interpret "The star" as a leading role.

Sequels are almost always a letdown to a large proportion of fandom, because everyone has developed their headcanon regarding what happened, which then smacks into new content.

I mean, I loved watching in the DS9 documentary the historic writers room reunion and breaking the script for the "eighth" season. But I think some of their choices (like Bashir as the literal head of Section 31) would make everyone's heads explode.

I have to admit, I chuckled at the image but it does make sense in a way. I could see Bashir recruiting others like himself to promote a more positive effort in S31's mission.

I doubt it would last long (like Mirror Spock and the Terran Empire) but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Anyway, it seems to me that Kurtzman era shows are frequnetly taking cue from one or two classical episodes. In this case it might be Good Shepherd.

If Tuvix isn’t in the show, I will boycott and throw diseased meat at CBS headquarters.

Tuvix is why she is forced to deal with the non-Starfleet teens. She has to escape from the Federation in order to not go to prison for Tuvix's murder and just so happens to bump into these kids and thus the show begins. At some point see redeems herself and gets allowed back in and promoted to Admiral. Meanwhile justice for Tuvix never happens.
