Jeanie and Samantha were both pregnant in the 1st seasons of I Dream of Jeanie and Bewitched.

I think it was carefully planned timing. The production team and WB worked with Benoist to allow her time to have her baby in a healthy manner and at least some time for maternity leave before filming. If executives had been that considerate 25 years ago Lois and Clark might have had a final season.

I could have handled a season with the biting Emily Proctor filling in as Lana Lang trying to sniff out dirty little Clark's secret.

My wife won't watch Smallville, but maybe Lois and Clark could peek her interest, after all in the time of Corona, there is only old TV.

I think it'll be sweet watching her coo and point at young Captain Lochely.

In a very general and broad sense, sure. In the very specific, detailed sense...not so much. That's creepy.

In fact, the pre-Covid plan was to start filming Season 6 right after wrapping Season 5 to film as much with Benoist as they could and then resume production after her return from maternity leave.

NOOO. NOT our lovely Lena Luthor !!!
Haven't you considered an open ending with Kara (project supported by Brainiac) asking Lena to accompany her in the future, where Luthor's and cleverness could be used by the Legion of Heroes in their fights. Furthermore, Lena being a scientist with a great intellectual curiosity, this would be nirvana for her: working in middle of super heroes benefiting from powers and means going beyond her imagination and her personal experiences.

Several scenario are possible:
- the most popular: Kara/Supergirl decide for whatever reason to join the Legion of Heroes and fight in the future, leaving Alex, her foster Mum and friends behind. And Alex/Kelly getting married and adopting a child => I don't see Kara neglecting her role as aunt, who would spoil her niece or nephew!
Anyway, the writers will have to find something solid to justify the Kara leaving everything dearest to her heart behind her, if this is the chosen scenario.
- the less popular: Kara deciding to retire and giving up her powers to finally live like any human => I don't believe it too much.

Melissa Benoist promised a happy ending for her character so, let's just hope we won't be disappointed.

I dunno, some of Smallville's early seasons were pretty good. I never liked Tom Welling much, and they dragged out the "farmboy Clark resists the call of heroism" thing way too long, but the writing was often pretty strong. It got pretty dire by seasons 6-7, but seasons 8-9 rallied somewhat.

But then, maybe it technically wasn't a "Superman show."

On the best (relatively) recent Superman show, Superman TAS was very good. I'm really not one to quibble over live-action vs animation. It was a show, people worked on it, talented people who clearly were devoted to what they were making. Good writing is an essential ingredient to any good show, and Superman TAS had that in spades.

No, I think it's fair to call Smallville a Superman show. It uses characters from Superman after all.

Technically, it mostly used characters from Superboy at first, e.g. Ma & Pa Kent, Lana Lang, and Pete Ross. And while Lex Luthor was originally a Superman villain, his backstory as Clark's childhood friend came from Superboy comics. Though of course it brought in more Superman characters over time, and other DC characters.

I just happen to like Lois & Clark better, that's all.

I like it too, and purely on an enjoyment level I'd probably rank its first two seasons above Smallville. But in terms of actual writing quality and production values, I think Smallville at its best probably surpassed L&C at its best, though they both got pretty dire at times too.

It ended several seasons after Lois & Clark concluded, and it didn't end all that long before Smallville began. It may not be recent, hence the use of "relatively," but it's certainly in the middle of the pack time-wise of the most recent Superman shows that have aired. You have to go back many decades to get to the Reeves show. And I guess you could count Superboy from the 1980s. There's also a 1960s cartoon as well as a cartoon for the 50th anniversary according to Wiki, both of which I've never seen.

All live-action Superman-related TV series rock. There's never been a bad one. (Well, admittedly much of Superboy is "so bad it's good," but I love it just the same.)

I know some champion TAS, which is fine, but I just prefer live-action to animation.

On another note, SupermanHomepage.com has as its weekly poll question, "How do you feel about Season 6 being the final season of 'Supergirl'?" Currently, the leading answer (almost 30 percent of respondents) is, "Extremely happy!"

I assume this is either because of the show's progressive politics, or because of the familiar insecure man-children who have never gotten over Clark losing a fight to Kara (or both). It saddens and disappoints me that a fandom devoted to such positive characters and ideals can be so toxic and petty.

Supergirl may not be perfect, but it has celebrated the spirit of Superman and his world with enormous heart and pride for five seasons. It deserves better than so-called fans cheering its demise.

They should end the show with Supergirl going to the future and her sister staying behind to become the cities protector where Lena will help her. Since time travel is common though she can always come back for guest spots or crossover events.
