So.. binge watched the first half of season 5 and it was great with a few flaws that don't detract too much.

I won't review each episode now, go see them for yourself but the first 8 had a quite good mix of comedic episodes mixed in the further develeopment of all characters and Chloe/Lucifer especially.

I liked that all characters get to experience their own story from Dan being the butt of the joke more than usual in the first few episodes until we see him breaking down once he uncovers Lucifer's true identity by "mistake" and is terrified he'll go to hell for his past mistakes.

One arc especially touched me and that was Maze - she's in a very tough spot at the start of the season since Eve left her and all around her people are starting to get get happy and finding their soulmates while she can't catch a break. It may be seen as repetitive since she already turned against Lucifer previously but the story and development was well done.

At times the back and forth between Chloe and Lucifer was a bit too much with mostly Lucifer being his own worst enemy once again but now that Michael is actively working on sabotaging his life Lucifer may not have been completely at fault.

This lead to one amazing sequence in the mid season finale when all the Celestials (Amenadiel, Lucifer, Michael and Maze) start duking it out in the time frozen police precinct with Maze and Michael teaming up sort of against the other two.

Unfortunately for people who have followed the news about the show the opening credits spoiled the appearance of Dennis Haysbert (who we knew would play God) and he shows up as the fight peaks and ends it - cue credits.

I give this season an easy 8 out of 10, some flaws but i was thoroughly entertained and can't wait to see what God brings to the table now in the second half of the season.

I watched this first episode, and we're off to a good start.
I thought they did a pretty good job of tying the case in with the issues everyone was dealing with without it feeling to forced.
Dan's new attitude, and Linda's craziness with the baby were pretty funny.

That final shot of the last episode for now? Don't get much better than that!

I really enjoyed the first half of season 5. Hopefully they don't delay releasing the second half too long in order to spread out Netflix's new programming during Covid.

    Episode 2: Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!
Wow, they really went through the whole Michael as Lucifer thing a lot faster than I expected. I figured we'd go at least a few episode before anyone suspected anything, and then at least a couple episodes with Chloe & Co. trying to figure out which Lucifer is the real one.
The whole thing with Micheal doing the same thing with feat that Lucifer does with desire was unexpected.
Some interesting hints about some kind of darkness in Linda's backstory there.

I'm glad they didn't drag it out. The clues were overwhelming that something was not right and it was right in front of an experienced and capable detective. I would have actually gotten mad if she didn't resolve this at the end of the second episode ;)

So in the timeline of the show, it's been over year since Lucifer was told Chloe was a miracle gift. Which means in that same time span, Dan fell for fake Charlotte, then fake Charlotte died, Dan fell for real Charlotte, then real Charlotte died, Dan made sure that the killer of Chloe's father got killed, and he went from a bad place to a good place back to a bad place back to a good place and then back to a bad place.

Also, Trixie is practically a teenager now.

Episode 3: Diablo! (There's also an Spanish upside down exclamation at the beginning, but I don't know how to do that on my keyboard)
The whole thing with Chloe finding out about her being made for Lucifer was an unexpected complication in their relationship.
The stuff with the show was hilarious. I love the fact that the show version of Chloe was Det. Dancer, which was the name that she had when the real show was first announced.
The Luci/Michael fight was pretty cool.
I'm very curious to see what is going to happen with Amenadiel in hell, and what the big secret Luci is keeping from Maze is.
Do we see Dad yet in the first half of the season?

I finished up the new episodes, and it really got good.
I was a little surprised how little Michael was in it, I was him to be a big driving force for the whole batch of episode, but he didn't really come back into to the picture until the last 3 or so episodes.
Once they revealed that the first guy wasn't The Whisper Killer, I guessed it was Pete. Just because whenever they introduce a new love interest so close to a serial killer showing up in something like this, that love interest is always the killer. I do feel especially bad for poor Ella, she finally decides to go for a nice guy, and he ends up being a serial killer.
I was pretty happy with the way they developed the Lucifer/Chloe relationship. There's always going to be some complications and drama with a new relationship like that, but I thought they did a pretty good job of not going to overboard with it.
Maze's arc was pretty good too, it was cool getting to see her mom, and her wanting a soul now really shows just how far she's come since the show started.
Amenadiel and Linda's parenthood experiences have been pretty fun.
It should be interesting to see what happens with Daniel once he's gotten over the initial shock of learning Lucifer really is the Devil.
The big Lucifer & Amenadiel vs Michael & Maze fight in the last episode was awesome, and Dad's arrival was a great cliffhanger to end things on.

I'm looking forward to the fun Lucifer is apt to have with Det. Douche in the next have.

Just wait until someone tells him what the entire 3rd season was about with Lucifer's mother and the whole posession thing, Dr. Linda will have to work overtime to fix all this

So this leaves only formerly super religious Ella Lopez out of the loop - wonder when she will find out and how she will react especially now that she needs some support after she dated a serial killer.

But of course most interesting is the meet and greet between Lucifer and God, those two have A LOT to talk about and for the life of me i can't come up with anything to fill the second half of the season so im extra curious.

Now that Dan knows that Lucifier is truly the devil, that just leaves Trixie and Ella who don't know.

Wonder if they will find out before the end of series and how they will react.

Ella's reaction would be the most interesting since she's the most religious character, and she also really likes Lucifer.

Finally found some time to watch these 8 episodes over the past week. Good, though not quite great. The highlight of the season may have been Tether Me.

About 15-20 minutes before the end, I think I figured out what Michael is up to. My guess was that he was trying to create so much chaos with Lucifer and Amenadiel that God would come down and kick them off the earth, thus stealing Lucifer's happiness from him. That seemed to play out in the final scene, though I guess we'll see what Dad has to say about it in episode 9. (Though it also wouldn't surprise me if Michael has his sights set even higher and wants to kick God out of heaven so he can take over.)

I suspect Dad intervened this time because Michael is willing to kill mortals.

I do hope they finally bring Ella into the loop. I'm not a fan of secret-identity tropes in general, the formula of the main character deceiving all their loved ones and colleagues. This show has dodged that by having Lucifer be completely honest about himself and simply not believed, but it's a superficial distinction. And it gets ridiculous in modern shows where it gets to the point that everyone in the core cast is in the loop except one character.

Also, now that the big G is an onscreen character, they really need to give him and his fangirl Ella a real, in-depth conversation.

Oh yeah, I always ask people if they want to be spoiled before I start talking about spoilers. Even though I don't worry to much about spoilers, I know that a lot of people do, and spoiling things without their permission is a seriously shitty thing to do.

We've got the trailer for the first half of season 5

The stuff with Dad looks like it should be a lot of fun. I love him criticizing Lucifer for not having his own desk like Dan does, especially since we all know how much Lucifer dislikes him.
