Spoilers Agents of SHIELD- The Final Season Discussion

I also started rewatching the show a couple of weeks ago. I'm now up to episode "4722 Hours" (3x05). Anyway, it's interesting rewatching the show and knowing how things will turn out. Mack almost quitting SHIELD because he doesn't trust Coulson at the end of S2 is hilarious considering he ends up being the director eventually. :D And all the will they, won't they between FitzSimmons. :D And of course Daisy not knowing how to deal with her powers and the fact that she's inhuman.

I also wanted to add that I really enjoyed season 1. Sure, it's not perfect but overall it had a ton of fun rewatching it.

Because I came to the show late, I wasn't sure if there were arguments about what kind of Character Daisy was (Basically the Mary Sue debate), but I loved how Daisy developed. She was a hacker who came to terms of who she was, and was trained by those around her (May, Jinyang, Jemma) in how to be an agent. Watching her grow really was one of the best things about this series.

Well she's a female protagonist, so of course a certain quarter of the fandom chinned in with that old nonsense.
And it is nonsense since there's a definite arc right there in season one, where most of her early episodes involve her doing something stupid and getting in over her head, up to and including getting very nearly murdered to death by a mere suit. Hyper-capable, she was not!

I admit there were times (like in Season 2) where the thought briefly crossed my mind, but her journey was so well written I didn't really care.

What I remember most vividly in this forum was fans’ initial dissatisfaction with Chloe Bennet’s performance more so than the Mary Sue debate.

I recall thinking Skye seemed a bit strident and over the top in the beginning, but then so did Lain Casteger and Lil Henstridge’s characters. But I thought Chloe’s performance smoothed out by the last 3rd of season 1, and by season 2 she was rolling.

But interestingly, I thought Clark Gregg and Ming Na had the measure of their characters perfectly from the start. That may have been due to level of acting experience.

In fairness to Gregg, he did play Caulson in a few of the movies before the series even started. As for Ming-Na, before I watched Agents of Shield I watched Stargate Universe and used that as a bit of an appetizer to seeing her in AOS. In hindsight, I think the SGU writers were holding her back too much.

I was definitely one of those. I loathed Skye in the first season (a little better towards the end), although I wasn't entirely sure if it was her actor or the writing or both. But when she became Daisy, I quickly turned around and she became one of my favorites.

Yup, they were the only two I really cared about in the first season and the only reason I stuck around as long as I did before bailing (and then returning after hearing the season got much better after the Hydra reveal).

Skye’s far from the most talented or most popular character. They gave her an Avengers level super power, and she’s still less frightening than the superhuman intellects of Fitzsimmons.

In the absence of gravitonium, who do you think could destroy the world the fastest if they wanted to? Fitz and Simmons.

I remember a recurring gripe on the A/V Club was how fancy her hair was for someone who lived in a van. Which I don't get, from what I've seen on Instagram, people in their mid-twenties who live in vans are all unbelievably attractive and perfectly styled.

If you rank characters based on how terrifying they'd be if they were bad guys, I think the listing goes:

Simmons
Fitz
Daisy
Yoyo
Ward (Actual bad guy!)
Coulson
May
Mack

I just really think if Fitz and Simmons suddenly decided they wanted to rule the Earth, and they were in a lab with all their usual resources, they'd figure it out in 30 minutes.

What makes Simmons scary is she would no doubt get Fitz to join up meaning your dealing with both of them. I would have May next up. Coulson though would pretty be hard to stop as well because he knows Shield in and out. He would be a great recruiter and could build a army. Ward tried that but Ward had terrible leadership skills. He knew how to appeal to people's anger but Coulson could create a bunch of people and have them thinking it was for some noble and great cause. Plus May might back him up. Simmons and Fitz of course have the science skills to pull off any major evil plot.

I don’t think Daisy was ever supposed to be frightening, despite how powerful she was. She had that one little period when she went walk about and was scary to some of the population, but she was never supposed to come off as frightening to the audience..

I’d love to see Chloe in a smart comedy. I follow her on Twitter and she has a wickedly dry sense of humor which she brought to her character on AOS on occasion. She sometimes posts these ridiculously ham handed and lewd DM’s she gets from guys. and she’ll add a reply. She’s really funny.

Daisy’s power is pretty damn scary. She could bring down a plane or entire building in seconds. You’re not scared of her cause you know her.

I put Coulson and May lower just cause they have no superhuman powers and they rely on being part of a team to do damage. I only put Coulson higher than May cause he has hordes of secret friends, whereas May would have a harder time getting support to do evilness.

Another second viewing revelation.

In Skye’s dream with the baby the music box is playing the tune to “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do”.

May could beat just about anyone one on one, powers or not. She just doesn’t command the resources of some other characters to topple kingdoms.

Bobbie only wants Hunter when she doesn't have him, and never when she does. Same with Grayson, that seems like her thing.

Still waiting for that Netflix drop... or, hell, even Disney+! Granted, the whole $25 season package on Amazon Video isn't even that unreasonable, but, as a grad student with homework, I'm still behind on lots of other stuff, so I can keep waiting until it appears somewhere... :p

I hate to sound like an idiot, but I can never remember which of these, <>, was greater than, and which was less than.
The Open side always has the larger number - and you always read left to right so if you write it out, you can always figure it quick:
6> (greater than) 3
4<(less than) 8
