Snowpiercer (TV series)

I'm guessing you haven't watched the season all the way through.

I know that Melanie isn't the real Wilford, which is part of why I didn't get the point of the final scene.

It's more complicated than that.
Well, thinking about it more, I don't know if I'd say "it's more complicated", because that is pretty much what is going on there, but there is more to the story than just her deciding to call herself Mr. Wilford.
Just in case anyone wants answers now:
There is a real Mr. Wilford and Melanie worked for him, but he didn't get on Snowpiercer, and she lied about him being there. Melanie is also the one who actually designed the train. The big twist that ends the season is that there is a second, supply train, and it shows up, links up with Snowpiercer, and the real Mr. Wilford, played by Sean Bean, crosses over.

I'm under the impression that he doesn't really exist in this version and never has, but rather a created persona to keep people in line, and nothing more than a brand. I watched the movie after I finished the series and I honestly felt it was a bit off-putting that Willard was even there at the end, which made me appreciate the cloud of mystery in the series.

The first class passengers recount their personal experiences with Mr. Wonka.

And if Bean's appearance record is any indication, he'll likely be dead via the first episode ;) Then Melanie will officially take over.

Come, now, there's precedence for him to survive for a whole season...and then die! ;)

But didn't his character survive only one episode on GoT? He's since had a lot of appearances where he's had short appearances, possibly due to his cost. Even in Season 1 of Medici, he lasted only that one season of 8 episodes.

He was the lead character in Legends and survived through the whole series.
As for his role on Snowpiercer, I'm expecting the conflict with Wilford and his people to last at least a few episodes. This feels way to big to just tie up in one or two episodes.

Nope. He survived for the whole season and then was executed in one of the final scenes of the finale, much to the shock of non-book readers because he was presented as the lead character (just like the book).

Thanks for the refresher. I'd forgotten that he lasted a full season. Been awhile :D Still, it seems he usually doesn't last more than a season.

The new season got off to a great start with last night's premiere. Mr. Wilford definitely looks like he's going to be a great villain. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Alex now that she's possibly going to be spending time with her mother.
There were some interesting hints about where the season is going to go in the EW's post premiere interview with the showrunner. I'm wondering if the big dude who wasn't effected by the cold was experimented on by Wilford's crazy doctors.

My Guess is that big guy is the bad ass from the movie, but a hardcore version for impatient couch potatoes... Who is really Augustus Gloop, but that's neither here nor there.

It cost Wilfred a fortune in Fudge.

Can someone tell me why disconnecting and running backwards would kill everyone on Snowpiercer? Wouldn't they just be able to start their engines? Did I miss some obvious dialogue explaining how this works? And how did the Alice train survive 6 months on low idle?

It wasn't running backwards that was going to kill them, Big Alice was going to back up and disconnect, and since Snowpiercer couldn't move, the power wouldn't work.

Yeah that's the part I missed. I guess part of the docking process also disabled Snowpiercer's controls?

When Wilford and Melanie were in his engine, he said something about how they were going to disconnect and go around by themselves, and by the time they came back around everybody on Snowpiercer was going to be dead. I think he might have said they were going to take the whole trip in reverse, but I can't remember for sure.
Apparently the thing that Melanie cut on the bottom of the trains had shut down Snowpiercer's controls. I missed if they said exactly what it was or what it did, but as soon as she cut it they started to get some control back.

I also wonder how to watch this show... Is it worth it to watch it at face value, or is it entirely metaphoric like the movie... Cuz the whole perpetual motion is obviously just capitalist society, forced to always move forward or stagnate and die... I think the show makes some sense just at face value too though.

I'm just watching at face value, but I don't usually look that deep, unless the metaphor is jumping up and down waving it's arms screaming LOOK AT ME I'M A METAPHOR, LOOK AT ME I'M A METAPHOR, and this hasn't been doing that.
