In any case, I'm hoping this season is just a temporary jump into the future. I wouldn't want it to take place there more than a season.

With Strange New Worlds I see no reason to go back.
IIRC, everyone has said it's permanent. There are even unconfirmed rumours of a 32nd century spin-off in development.

That's a real kick in the gut. To think they're going to die in a horrific alternate future far from their homes. Never to see their families again. Part of what made Discovery so good is they emphasized the family connections and people that they had off the ship.
I am looking forward to Strange New Worlds but I don't see why if they wanted to do a permanent show in a dystopian future, they would rip characters already well-integrated into the setting from it.
It really kills a lot of potential sequels and follow-ups for the characters. I had no idea the reboot was supposed to be permanent and that severely impacts my feelings regarding the show going forward.
Well, I'll give it a chance but damn. I've been a fan of DISCO from day 1. Why fix what isn't broken?

Kurtzman went out of his way after the second season ended to make it really clear that the move to the future was permanent for purposes of appeasing Canon.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I feel like if someone had said that TNG would move permanently to the Mirror Universe.
Because fans insisted it was.
Unfortunately, it just fueled the entitled sense of possession and expectation of changing what's hated.
DISCO was the most requested and loved streaming show of 2019 so clearly the haters didn't know what they were talking about.

yeah and at the end of season one they were at 100% certain they were never going to recast the character of Spock because both Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto did such a good job with the character in their eyes, and there was no way they thought they could recast again so soon...

My point? Stuff in Hollywood is fluid. If someone comes up with an an idea or premise that the executive producer likes they'll go with it no matter what they said in the past.

Haters can "ruin" the response to something like DSC or The Rise of Skywalker, but negative opinion had zero narrative impact on either property.
How do you know the howling about Luke didn't play a part in the course change that was ep 9? There was clearly a change from where 8 was heading. Just a more boring director back at the helm, or did Disney want less howling?

This is a false statement.
Everything that happens in Abrams and Terrio's version of TRoS is consistent with what Rian did in TLJ.
We also have visual evidence that elements of TRoS' plot (especially pertaining to Palpatine) were in development going back as far as 2017 when TLJ was in post-production.
That situation doesn't compare. The showrunners at that start of season 2 had no plans of including a grown up Spock on Disco. It was when they got fired and Kurtzman took the reins for the remainder of the season that the decision was made to include Spock as a grown up. You and I must have very different ideas of what "consistent" means, because one of my biggest issues with RoS is the ways that I feel it tries to unwrite events in TLJ.
