Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

Since I'm working from home through at least mid-November, I'm in the process of watching through all of Star Wars. I finished Clone Wars and I'm almost done with season three of Rebels and then will watch Resistance followed by The Mandalorian before I jump into the movies*. I admittedly wasn't overly impressed with The Mandalorian. Started out promising but then took a turn about midway through only to have an impressive finale. I'm looking forward to re-watching to see if a second viewing adds some texture to it. Still, congrats to an impressive showing at the Emmys!

* No particular order to my rewatch. I thought about doing a chronological watch about halfway through TCW. Didn't really want to start over.

The voiceover Emmy nomination is for Taika Waititi for IG-11 which seems odd to me. I'd go with Pedro Pascal or Nick Nolte personally.

Pedro Pascal is apparently in some sort of a no man's land situation. He's not eligible for a best actor because his face is covered most of the time, but he can't get a best voiceover because of the one scene where he removed his helmet.

So was he ever in the suit?
Watching it, I had assumed he was, but later I saw references to other people wearing it.

I was wondering if that might be the case.

Yes, some of the time. General rule of thumb: if he's going gunplay stuff it's Brendan Wayne. If he's doing hand to hand martial arts or general stuntperson type of stuff, it's Lateef Crowder. Most everything else is Pedro Pascal...unless it's some random wide-shot and they just used a stand-in because: logistics.

Also, apparently Pascal was busy doing rehearsals for King Lear on Broadway during the episode where they saved the village from the AT-ST, and that was all stand-in.

Well, the Twitterati are saying we're getting a season 2 trailer in the next day or two...

Please show me where it's written that your costume makes you ineligible for an acting award.

I suspect it boils down to the fact that, in this case, nobody can prove if it was Pascal doing the actual acting to warrant said award.

Does GG even have a best voiceover award? It seems that voice only work isn't up for acting awards but I see no indication that revealing his face makes him ineligible for voice work awards.

(Though in Mando's case, Pascal was physically absent from entire episodes, so I guess I can see the logic.)

Even if they rewrote the rules, I could see Pascal still being ineligible this season, since they replaced him for scenes not requiring fighting/stunt work. It's a fair trade off, if you use the flexibility of schedule not afforded to those who have to show their face, you aren't eligible for the awards. If you are present as if you were unmasked you are eligible.

Have they ever given an exact percentage of how much Pascale was in the costume and how much it was other people?
If it were me, I would base eligabilty for acting awards masked roles on percentage of time the actor was under the mask, vs stunt or other doubles. The only problem would be verifying which scenes were or were not the credited actor.

The only awards I know of that have one for voice work are the Annie Awards, and they do that because are specifically for animation, so that's the only acting involved.
