Uniforms in the new series

My understanding is that the costume caused Stewart considerable back problems, there was no give to it.
It did. Even his chiropractor, from what I read, complained about it. But, the spandex uniforms didn't all together leave the show, even if the mains changed. The original costume was also sized one size smaller than the actor's actual size.

Makes sense. The new badge will also be able to double as a communicator and possibly more.

Why does it make sense? You'd think that would be the last thing on their minds

As for the communicator, as generic as the rest of the designs

Burnham's hair deserves it's own thread because it's amazing.

On another note, I wonder if the crew might get new uniforms to go with those new combadges
We see Aira in a uniform, same colour as the Discovery ones but a different design. I suspect that's the uniform of the surviving splintered faction of Starfleet she belongs to.

They could be V’draysh badges, in which case they could definitely be communicators.

Who’s Aira?

Aira is the new non-binary character. In the season 3 trailer, they're the individual that is floating in the symbiont pool and there is also a scene of them doing something in a jefferies tube.

Looks like it has rank pips on the new badges. If they're part of a new service, shouldn't they have the uniforms of that service?

I'm guessing there's no Starfleet in the 32nd Century. So this would be starting it up again. Since there's no uniform, because there's no Starfleet, might as well stick with what they have. They probably still thought the badge had to be updated into a communicator (and possibly more).

Because it's easier to wear a communicator than carry one. It became standard in the 24th Century (after Discovery left) and probably still might be in the 32nd.

Looking at the badges I have from QMx, I can't believe they couldn't fit the electronics into the ones they already have. TyVoq had a working communicator badge in season two that was of comparable size to the regular badges.

They wanted an excuse to update the look. ;)

I just had a thought. Whoever who they run into, probably whoever the non-binary character is with, probably gave them to the crew of Discovery.

Future Person: "Here! You'll need these!"
Saru: "What's this?"
Future Person: "These are what we use for communicators!"
Georgiou (scoffs): "Section 31 had those in our time. We were ahead of the curve."
Future Person: "You'll be surprised at what these can do!"
Burnham: "Like what?"
Future Person: "Here. Let me show you."
After Demonstration...
Tilly: "Wow! We so need these!"

I'd bet money that's how it goes.

These communicators can probably reach people across quadrants. Even if not, they probably have far greater range. They should, given how much easier it would be to travel across the galaxy. The communicators in the 23rd and 24th Centuries are all still short-range.

Discovery could spore-jump and still stay in contact with someone who wasn't onboard Discovery if they had to split up for some reason.

Portable holo-emitter, personal forcefield generator, site to site transporter, personal tractor/repulse beam emitter... possibilities are endless.

Have medical and sciences have their own unique colors.

Anybody want to discuss dress (or mess dress) uniforms?
