Season 3 Finally Lands October 15

I just want to correct myself. The first 7 episode titles and writers supposedly leaked. Two of them are a 2-parter with a story by Kim and Lippoldt but not teleplay credit. They’re called Terra Firma. If these turn out to be true, they might partly have to do with Georgiou and setting her up for her own series.

This lends to my thinking the Section 31 series would take place in The Future and would also explain why Shazad Latif sounded so out-of-the-loop before.

And if that's true, it's probably also why they can't go into detail talking about Section 31's premise. It's just inviting spoilers for the third season of Discovery.

Also, there has been nothing official that Section 31 has been cancelled. The only thing official is that it’s happening. I think certain fans who don’t want it are letting what they want get in the way of the facts.

I’ve kinda just been under the impression that any details of Section 31 would constitute a spoiler for the third season of Discovery. I assume once the season is finished they’ll start discussing it more.

I’m still not 100% sold on the idea of the show itself, but at the end of the day I can never say no to more Yeoh.

As far as I know, Berg and Harberts were credited on Season 2 for the episodes on which they worked, and the overall general story outline for the season remained the same as when they were in charge.

Only for the season premiere, since that was written and filmed before they were fired.

Ethan Peck was cast during the pre-production process while Berg and Harberts were still in charge.

No. Ethan Peck was not cast until after Harberts and Berg left. Indeed, everyone involved in the show early on in season 2 said Spock would only be appearing as a child in flashbacks.

I am so curious to see if Disco manages to land the arc in season 3. During original air, I attributed the slapdash sloppiness at the climaxes of season 1 & 2 to be caused by Showrunner Musical Chairs. But then

when the same problem manifested on "Picard", despite there not being any showrunner turnover there,

I got worried it all actually comes from Kurtzman. I really hope "inability to satisfactorily resolve a season arc" does not become THE key shortcoming of the current Trek era.

But, god knows I had to get used to some maddeningly persistent shortcomings in the Berman era as well. There's always something.

Nevertheless, as many Trek shows have demonstrated over the years, great casting can compensate for a multitude of other sins, and they're off to a good start in that department...

It's a mixture of scenes we've already seen and new ones - for both shows.

About the only new thing for Disco I saw there is what looks like a return to Kaminar. Or maybe just that same filming location.

I also wasn't talking about legal consequences, but about the characters emotional processing of their actions. The identity of the victim really matters. Dax was after a multiple child murderer that killed her godson, and Jurati was murdering her beloved mentor and former lover. Dax's target was actually guilty of the crimes, where Jurati essentially killed her victim over a misunderstanding. Dax was an accessory and froze when given the opportunity to deliver the killing blow, where Jurati directly (and brutally) murdered her victim with her own hands.

But the biggest difference is, we saw Dax actually struggle with the implications of all of this, and at the end we're left with the knowledge that, even though she didn't do the killing herself, she is going to carry the weight of this forever, and we don't have to hear about it again to know that this guilt is just a part of her now.

Meanwhile, Jurati's crime was so much uglier and so much more brutal, but she seems to only experience a fraction of Dax's moral struggle. Jurati seemed to be torn up for a few hours and then... eager to evade any consequences and just move on? I don't even know, I thought her arc in particular was so mishandled in the end stretch.

But maybe they can save it in season 2, there's many ways they could. I am hopeful! For most of the season I thought Jurati might be one of the most delightful Trek characters ever, before she became so repulsive to me in the end. Leaning into her dark side might even be the way to go.

We see Burnham looking at what appears to be her time-suit HUD. She pumps her fists and lean back, yelling in what appears to be triumph. Is this Burnham discovering she's successfully traveled a millennium forward in time? It's good to see that kind of happy emotion from her!

Well we've seen non-binary, genderless species in Trek before. Maybe they will be a non-binary human, or an Artifical lifeform that considers itself genderless. I'm pretty sure this character is the one floating in the trill symbiont pools, so maybe they are a variation or sub-group of joined trill.

So you want Patrick Stewart who's 80 years old and at high risk if he contracts COVID-19 to leave his home and area he knows well, and take a trip to Canada, essentially risking his health, so you can get Picard season 2 (assuming Patrick Stewart survives to finish shooting it) a few weeks earlier.

As long as the character fits the story and is entertaining, I don't see a problem. The same as any other character. The less focus on Michael Burnham, the better.

I just find this OTT liberal sledgehammer approach to be getting tedious. 5 gay crew members on two shows and now this. And I myself am gay so don't come at me from that angle.

Imagine what it was like having a black woman, an asian man and a Russian on the bridge of the Enterprise and them being treated the same as the white men!

Now it's such a nothing you don't register it, and hopefully soon the same will be true of Discovery's cast.

Honestly, I think Culber and Stamets might be the best written couple in all of Trek. Not that it’s a particularly high bar since Trek’s always struggled with romance in my opinion. I fail to see anything in their scenes that comes across as pandering or trying to “sledgehammer” some sort of agenda.

That being said, I find it troubling that anyone would have a problem with there being a wide array of sexualities on display.
