I signed the petition. Despite everything, I still hope for the return of this series. In my opinion, it is the best and most pleasant. Too bad... too much time has passed... the actors are not so young anymore... No matter. Let them return Enterprise or let them release Axanar! They stopped production. Pathetic cowards!
ENT coming back in any form is highly improbable. If CBS were to revive it, it would probably only happen in the context of them doing one-off revivals for the other old shows too. I could plausibly imagine CBS producing one-off reunion TV movies for DS9, VOY, and ENT iff they wanted to capitalize on PIC hitting the nostalgia buttons of audiences; I can't plausibly imagine any of them being revived as a regular series, or any one of them getting a TV movie but not the other two. There is, however, no indication that such TV movies are in the works. If they were to bring ENT back in any capacity, they should look at adapting one of @Christopher 's Rise of the Federation novels. They're fun books that capture the ENT characters very well and present interesting adventure stories about what building a new interstellar union really means. Edited to add: One major possible hiccup is that I'm unclear if Jolene Blalock would be willing to come back. I get the impression from her Instagram that she's left the acting industry and has made running her and her husband's family charity her full-time job.
That seems way more probable. Scott Bakula is starring on NCIS: New Orleans for CBS. It seems far more plausible that CBS could get him to come back and do a one or two-day shoot as Admiral Archer or President Archer for a Short Treks episode, than that they would do a full-on ENT revival.
Why does it have to be a Short Trek? I'd rather have a crossover episode with Discovery or Picard. Imagine business as usual, then Archer, T'Pol, Trip, and time traveler Daniels show up from the past, because plot.
What about that chef character who was featured so prominently in the final episode of "Enterprise"? I'd watch more episodes featuring him. I, too, don't think it likely that "Enterprise" will be revived for television anytime soon. Perhaps it could be possible to do a "Short Trek" or to incorporate some of the characters into the Kirk-era with "Strange New Worlds." However, there would have to be a solid story-based reason to do so, other than "it would be cool" (although sometimes "cool" cameos pop up, like the NX-01 model in "Star Trek Into Darkness"). In any case, I wouldn't let the end of filmed episodes of "Enterprise" stop people from envisioning what happened next with Archer and his crew (including the enigmatic chef character that I believe we only saw in the finale). Several authors have taken up the mantle of telling additional stories of the crew of the NX-01, including what happened during the Earth-Romulan War and the founding and first steps of the Federation. I found those novels to be enjoyable. In any case, good luck and maybe focus your efforts on the chef character. You may find that you've already accomplished your goal (I'm joking about chef and the final episode, in case that wasn't clear).
Axanar has nothing to do with this discussion, but since you brought it up: Axanar has even less of a chance of being made than an ENT sequel does. But that’s because there’s a specific reason why Axanar will never be made, and it has nothing to do with CBS.
I just don't think there's enough interest in ENT amongst the larger audience base that doesn't spend way too much time on the TrekBBS for them to be interested in putting ENT characters into a larger production, TBH. I mean, I think Short Treks would be the best possible venue to do something just because it's cool. You can have a short, fun little mini-episode that's 15 minutes or less without needing to make it into a larger story (or interfering with someone else's larger story). Honestly Short Treks are basically there to either be side-story expansions on a larger story ("The Brightest Star," "Children of Mars"), or just to be cool without a lot of justification ("The Escape Artist," "Ask Not").
I was hoping we could've gotten an ENT character cameo in the Kelpien Short Trek. Did it really need to be Georgiou that made contact with Saru? T'Pol or an older or elderly Reed, Mayweather, or Sato could've worked here as well, definitely Hoshi because she could've translated the Kelpien language. And depending on how long lived Kelpiens are, the ENT character didn't have to be Admiral McCoy age either. Could've been like how Data had been in Starfleet for 26 years or so before getting on the Enterprise.
None of these characters have anything to do with Discovery. The point of the short was to be a prequel to the show, to show how Saru and Georgiou first met.
Yes, because an important part of Saru's arc is his relationships with Georgiou and Michael. He's the ersatz younger brother who feels passed-over and ignored by Georgiou, the ersatz mother, in favor of Michael, the ersatz older sibling. He starts off as Jan from The Brady Bunch to Michael's "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha," and he has to learn to overcome that jealous to become a leader aboard the Discovery. So in giving his origin story, one of the creative obligations of "The Brightest Star" is to establish the foundation of Saru's loyalty towards, and desire for approval from, Georgiou. I mean, sure, they could have done that. But it wouldn't have strengthened Saru's dramatic arc, because he would have no enduring connection to, say, Sato coming to rescue him; it would be the equivalent of Rey returning to Luke's homestead on Tattooine, a location she has no real reason to care about which is only meaningful to the audience.
I really like Star Trek - Enterprise, but I don't believe the show will ever come back. I am hoping for a new Star Trek show set just after Enterprise, about the birth of the Federation. A more political show in the style of The West Wing. That would be something unique for Star Trek. I wouldn't mind a few guest appearances from Archer, T'Pol or any of the other Enterprise NX-01 crew members on that show.
I get the why of it, but at the same time, there was also space to add to Saru as a character and to establish DISCO even more firmly in the history of Trek. Looking at Data again, Data not knowing (that we know of) Picard before he served on the Ent-D didn't diminish their friendship. We know, or can assume, that Saru served with Georgiou several years before, just like Burnham, the Battle of the Binary Stars and that mentor/parental relationship could've been established during that time. Personally I think Saru's story could've been richer if he had been in the Federation/Starfleet for decades perhaps, learning to get a hold on his fearful nature enough to join Starfleet and serve aboard starships. Certainly there were less stressful and less fear inducing jobs than that he could've picked. Though one can assume he did it out of loyalty and respect for Georgiou. Having an ENT crew member/cast member make contact with him, or heck, even the Kelvin's Robau, ties Saru and DISCO to the larger story of Trek. And for Easter Eggs, it gives fans a glimpse of one of the older characters and it passes the torch in a way, something that other Trek series, from TNG to ENT, had done, but DISCO unfortunately did not. I'm not counting Sarek or Amanda here in Season 1. I'm talking about an established character, played by an actor/actress the audience already knew in the role. If way Hoshi had rescued Saru I would not assume he would have no enduring ties to her. It could've been something left to explore. I think a tie like this would've felt more organic as it were than having Burnham be Spock's adopted sister. Even there, I've long thought it would've been better to have Burnham be adopted by Soval or T'Pol. The basic relationship with her parental figure doesn't change if it's Soval especially, and even with Spock, that could've been shifted from a sibling relationship to one that might have been romantic in nature. Both being competitors at the Vulcan Science Academy and both feeling like outsiders could give them a love-hate relationship. They could even have had Sarek weighing in on the Vulcan Science Academy choice, choosing Burnham over Spock-similar to what DISCO done-but in this instance, because logically Burnham was more accomplished or a better fit instead.
There wasn't much exploration of the meeting between Saru and Georgiou. The series spent more time exploring Burnham meeting Georgiou. Admiral McCoy had nothing to do with TNG, Quark didn't have anything to do with VOY, or Zefram Cochrane didn't have much, or anything to do with ENT, but fans got it.
Signed. It remains a favorite Star Trek series of mine, the Blu-rays of this and remastered TOS are my go-to fix, to escape the state this world is in... and I never got over the way it all ended. It should've been picked up by another network for a 5th season back in 2005/06. Judging by the slashed budget of its final year, less money resulted in a better show too. I'd love a 3-parter showing us everything that happened between "Terra Prime" and the Federation founding. Done as a History Channel-style program from the Discovery era's perspective probably.
Whatever ENT itch that I may still have had was sufficiently scratched by the references to that era in ST:Beyond. Kor
There was not much reference about the NX-01 crew in Star Trek: Beyond. The only thing mentioned was the Romulan War, the people who fought during that war and the shuttlepod was shown.
