Possibly my favorite contribution DS9 made to the Trek mythos was establishing that the aliens also see humans as a homogeneous, one-trait race -- the insufferably cheerful try-hards of the galaxy!

Romulans do tend to do things in ones. They also typically only have one ship design in service at any given time.

“Hey Star Trek fans! Here’s something new and exciting for you!”

    “You suck! Gene’s vision!”

“Okay, fans. Here’s something fun and different.”

“You’re worse than Satan! You should be shot out of a canon into the sun!”

“Well then here’s an update on something familiar for you to enjoy.”

    “Pitiful hacks! Destroyers of dreams!”

    And so it goes...

I read the opening thread, not all the ones that follow.

I am not feeling negative about this latest show. I will give it a chance. My expectations are lowered.

For myself, I really hope the COVID virus will end this era of Star Trek. My views on this Kurtzman era have been better stated by others more adept at communicating their thoughts. I look forward to the next era of Star Trek, if there is one.

Really odd statement. Why would COVID end it? More people are at home watching TV, if anything COVID should be providing more possible viewers for the shows.

Plus Discovery films in Canada which has the virus more under control so is more likely to be able to get back to quasi-normal filming.

I am enjoying this current era and looking forward to the next. May Star Trek be so fortunate.

That's pale. That's crossed over from "I don't like it" to something else.
You probably won't like what they'll do either.

Everyone is going to rightfully pile on you here, and I don't blame them at all. I'll just say that as of tonight 648,477 people can't agree with you.

Can't we just all get along. We got a great Star Trek show in The Orville so how could we Trek fans be so upset with the state of the franchise!

Yeah, I was thinking about saying something too but, given the craziness that was immediately above it, I thought to myself, "Nah, I'd rather pick my battles."

I might watch the Orville one day. It's going to be hard to see it with an open mind now that's kind of become the Fnord of the Learned Society of People who Seriously, I Mean Really Don't Like Discovery

I liked the Orville season 1. It was by no means the greatest show ever, or even particularly better written than DSC, but it has some good characters and I appreciate what it tries to do. Still waiting for season 2 to be available from the library.

And for the record, I have issues with Discovery's story arcs that make comparing the two nearly impossible (because Orville doesn't have story arcs and can't be undermined by flubbing them), but I still like Discovery better than Orville because it has more interesting characters.

People don't just like it because they don't like Discovery. Many Discovery fans even like it. I think most people just like to bring it up mostly because it's just kind of fun to sort friendly tease people with. It's made the list! The list you might want to know is this.

    1 Tuvik
    2 No money in Starfleet
3 Starfleet is not a military
    4 Midnight Edge
    5 Kathleen Keenedy
    6 Gene's Vision
    7 Canon
    8 Head Canon
    9 The REAL Klingons
    10 Brian Brophy
    11 Robau
12 Rick Berman and Braga( well Braga sort of has fallen off in recent years)
13 Burnham as a Mary Sue or just boring.
14 The pilot character on Enterprise that nobody can ever remember his name.
    15 Cussing on CBS Trek
    16 Alex Kurtzman
17 The Shat Man because the Shat Man is always going to be The Shat Man
