All the Negative people.

Haters threw a fit because she's drinking Romulan WHISKEY. They think the writers don't know Trek because it's the wrong drink.

I guess Romulans aren't allowed to have any other type of beverage.
Blergh and argh! It's only been called Romulan Ale for the past forty years (nearly). Would it really hurt one of these sycophantic jackanapes to sit down and watch TWOK to learn a thing or three? Maybe they could even learn proper writing while they were at it.

Star Trek is finished! FINISHED! I'm going to have to go watch Home Soil now to cleanse this poison from my memory and properly centre myself again.

;)

Okay, but seriously, maybe being drunk, Mariner just called it whiskey instead of the proper name ale. Characters can make mistakes, can't they? Oh, right, Almighty Canon doesn't make allowances for character mistakes, does it?

Unless it is about a D-7. :shifty:

As far as the Romulan “whiskey” goes, someone could correct Mariner at some point. It could be part of a larger joke.

Thread, why you so mad? I only turn my back on you for just a sec. :sigh:

If you want to talk about "looks like it was drawn by fifth graders!", you might want to try Thundercats Roar.
I'm not sure I had ever heard of that show, but looking at the artwork I must say I really dig it, to be honest! It's just the kind of unconventional art style I would have loved to see on Lower Decks. What we'll be getting looks fine, if a bit on the safe side, because it looks really close to a lot of other “adult” animated shows right now. I love that some shows seem to take a more daring approach to character design. It's especially bold when new shows within an existing IP are doing it, because of the backlash from the fanbase that's to be expected.

It’s like Star Wars planets having one Earth-like climate. The idea that alien cultures can only have one alcoholic drink is just silly.
I was about to come into this thread and offer Deep Space Nine's Kali-fal as an additional Romulan beverage, but then I found out on MA that it's likely just another name for Romulan ale. :rommie:

"It is a curious fact, and one to which no-one knows quite how much importance to attach, that something like 85 percent of all known worlds in the Galaxy, be they primitive or highly advanced, have invented a drink called jynnan tonyx, or gee-N'N-T'N-ix, or jinond-o-nicks, or any one of a thousand variations on this phonetic theme."

-- Douglas Adams

It continues to amaze me that somehow there is this expectation that we have seen every detail of the alien cultures in Trek.

I get what you're saying, but the shows themselves have often alluded to the alien worlds they encounter having a very homogeneous mindset, culture, and personality trait that permeate the entire population.

Not that I have a problem with that. It's just a story, and fictional stories (especially science fiction) has often simplified these sorts of things in order to tell the story they want.

How so? Even if there is a homogeneous mindset that doesn't preclude smaller variations within the larger cultural context.

Yes, and that simplification is then adopted as a standard which results in less and less actual realistic cultures. Which, in turn, limits storytelling possibilities.

I think she got it wrong then he mocked her repeating her error. It's clearly Romulan Ale. I sure hope this isn't an example of how every dot and tittle of LDS will require dissection down to the molecular level!
