All the Negative people.

Maybe I'm just a fan and am trying to say that Trek has sunk to it's lowest low ever here

Oh, bullshit. Ever seen “And the Children Shall Lead”, “Code of Honor”, “Fair Haven” and Star Trek: Insurrection?

That one scene from Lower Decks is fucking Hamlet compared to them. Fuck, so is Discovery and Picard on their worst day.

I don't agree. Have you ever seen the actual episode "Lower Decks" from tNG. They are ripping off the name and basic idea, but clearly none of the substance.

You mean the tear jerking melodrama of sending a one off character that we didn’t care about to her death? Yeah, I’ve seen it. It bored me to tears.

And it really wasn’t “Lower Decks” as two of the characters were bridge officers, one was a nurse in Sickbay and the fourth an Engineer.

Yet did Ebert (a well reknowned critic) have to do that every time he gave zero or one-star reviews. Does everyone you go up and chat abotu movies that says "that movie is absolute garbage" have to do that?
Yes, they do. There is a level of respect that I believe should be conveyed even if one things a film is "garbage."

Ebert also was a professional critic. That is was his job. And critics can still be criticized.

Certainly. You had a smartass officer who was trying to kiss up to Riker. A know-it-all Vulcan who enjoyed arguing with superiors, and a Bajoran desperate to prove herself and people giving her shit for it.

They are doing a comedy show based upon a similar premise. We have no idea how much substance will be there since we have had a trailer and a clip of the show released. By that standard Star Trek Beyond was treated as shit.

Thus far, all I have seen of Lower Decks reminds me of other Star Trek storylines or shows. It isn't the "lowest" for Trek, not by a long shot.

I think LD can be analogous to Gotham TV show with Ben McKenzie. I like Gotham as a satire of long-winded convoluted comic book stories.. mixed with a hard boiled 80s type cop show. But to a Batman fan, they look at the character designs of Mr. Freeze, Bane, and any number of other ideas, they can dismiss it out of hand.. and I don't diss them for that.. but when I dismiss LD as NOT BEING STAR TREK, people are roasting me through the coals

It's not necessary. But without even going there it's amazing how for the last three pages of this thread people were accusing me of tossing a few insults at the production team of the show when I was really stating my opinion of the show itself. I guess, based on the title of this thread, I'm not allowed to do either. I'm just supposed to love it and embrace it, and not be so negative, and just appreciate the creative vision that went into producing this show, and to just be oh so welcoming of it. That's what I'm supposed to do.
Maybe the picture you posted about today's kids compared to 1944 is more of a mirror than you thought XD

Can anyone imagine LD drawn in classic Disney style? That was more work and effort, but it would not improve LD at all, I think.

And they never said it was for kids, it's skewed towards adults and they're aiming for a TV-14 raiting.
Exactly. And it is meant to be an adult comedy series employing style of humor that a lot of people enjoy. Will it be funny? I don't know, but the comedy style doesn't bother me.

Maybe not everyone will enjoy it since tastes differ. However, to claim that it is garbage just because that style doesn't suit your tastes in comedy is an arrogant attitude. It's pretty rude and insulting to tell someone "Oh...you actually like that kind of garbage?

Don’t play innocent. You spent months roasting Kathleen Kennedy and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with a lot of the same language you are using here.

Indeed. It comes across as incredibly elitist that Star Trek doesn't fit in to this special box. As though Star Trek only has one shape.

People think I'm just being negative, and closed minded yet i wanted nothing more than to see QT's Trek. OMG how awesome would that be? .. I'm just imagining how neat Trek would be with the QT stamp on it, and how much QT would have to set aside his own steadfast traditions to honor the franchise. THAT is now you do something. Even if his version wasn't as safe and basically 90s as Seth's I still would have LOVED to see it
