I'm not one to invoke The Orville all that much, but I'm hoping we have a similar situation here with the trailer. The early promos for that show were mostly all the worst humor from the show, basical none of the more nuanced stuff (for obvious reasons).
Whether for brevity (probably) or because they think it's the stuff people most want (maybe) my hope is that the LDS trailer material is just the snappiest stuff they had available, and doesn't represent the general comedy level of the show. I'm kind of hoping that the M.O. for the show is, "Try to mostly do jokes that Trek can do." (ie: If the gag could work in just about any cartoon ever, maybe come up with something else.) If the show doesn't go that route, I'll just settle for it being good.
