When I get rid of my 'Wheedon Cut' of Justice League Blu-Ray it'll be when, (hopefully in time for Christmas 2021) I get my Snyder Cut Justice League on special edition Blu-Ray. And also hopefully it'll include the theatrical cut (I won't get rid of it otherwise) and my definition of disposing of said Blu-Ray will involve giving it away to a charity shop/jumble sale.
Didn't that change whilst Zac Snyder was still on the project. Ditto the 'lighter tone'?
Hard to know correct facts. They were announced as two films, part 1 & 2 and were filming back to back while Superman V. Batman was coming out. Then WB announced one movie and said it was always one movie and then it would be lighter in tone etc. The talk of part 2 was that the earth was destroyed when Darkside arrived at the end of part 1.

The DCEU has been a complete disaster for me since it started, so I'm not really emotionally invested in it the same way I am with the MCU. I mostly just find the decision to release the Snyder Cut fascinating more than anything - not because I necessarily care to watch it, but more about how Warner Bros plans to talk about Justice League as a film from this point forward - because it's essentially going to be two completely different films with (allegedly) dramatically different stories, plot points and scenes. Which one is "canon"? Which one is "official"? Does it matter? Also, since it was WB's decision to hire Joss Whedon to come in and completely change the film after Snyder left, is this an acknowledgement that they made a mistake and that they regret the decision? (I mean, this really shouldn't have surprised them - Snyder and Whedon are so dramatically different that there's no way you should expect their visions to mesh in a cohesive way). And now that the DCEU has completely shifted gears and is moving in a new direction with their films, what does releasing the Snyder cut do for them other than re-open old wounds? Isn't it just time to move on?
Instead of handing over 20 or 30 million to make a new cut of a failed, bad movie why not use it to make a good Justice League mini series for HBO Max instead?

Considering the state of the DCEU right now, I doubt it matters. Besides, they've been quick to retcon things before (like the Wonder Woman movie consciously changing Diana's stance on humanity from the one in BvS) so even if it sort of matters, it really doesn't.
It just means that they know there is huge interest, and they can make a product to help boost a streaming platform for a lot less money than making it completely from scratch.

So will there be enough unused footage for this to actually be drastically different? Or will we end up with more or less the same movie, just with a few different edits here or there?
Was everything he wanted filmed before he left the movie? Because if he didn't, then we still won't really be seeing his real vision for the movie, since it will still be missing scenes he wanted.

Drastically different. I haven't been following the thing closely, but besides the fact that Snyder's cut is reportedly nearly four hours as opposed to two, much of what is in that two-hour theatrical version was shot by Whedon, not Snyder. I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder has three hours or so of heretofore unseen Justice League movie. (For a small taste, go back and watch the several trailers/sizzle reels for the movie; they're chock-full of shots and scenes that aren't in the film as released.)
I'm no fan of Snyder's brooding, joyless version of the DC universe, but I am a big fan of many of these characters and the actors who play them. So while I fully expect to find the tone as wrongheaded and unappealing as ever, I'm still excited to see it, and glad it's being released.

I think there was a comic book story in the 70s where Darkseid wanted to marry Wonder Woman.
What we will see is itty bitty Wonder Woman mounting and making love to an elephant sized god, but what the film crew will see is Gal trying to proposition a tennis ball on a string.

It definitely sounds like we're getting the originally planned Parts I & II combined into one film, hence the excessive running time. It also sounds like it was practically finished when Snyder was booted, all live-action filming done, lacking only the final polishing up of CGI/music.
Which makes WB's actions with Whedon, justified or not, even more of a self-defeating backstab. That theatrical cut was carrying not just its own budget on its shoulders, but the full weight of two other fully-shot and discarded movies too. This is gonna make one HELL of a tell-all book someday...

WB is starved for new content (hence Swamp Thing airing on CW) and desperate for something to help sell their streaming platform. This move fits the bill as well as any, and isn't a huge financial investment.
Lucky Snyder. This wouldn't have happened otherwise, WB wouldn't care if not for Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad 2 and other movies to move forward with being derailed as they have been.

OK, I was thinking he was only about half way through shooting when he stepped down.
Even though I wasn't a big fan of the tone of Batman v Superman and Man of Steel, I'll probably still check this out if I ever subscribe to HBOMax, just because I'm curious to see how different it is from the theatrical version.
