My badge from FanSets has already shown up. Five days after I ordered my “expedited” order from Eaglemoss, I had to email them to remind them to send it out.

 

Lockdown mentality made me want stuff so I got the Centaur, the Reliant, the Ent-A and the Rommie D'deridex. All very nice, though the stands for the Reliant and D'deridex only JUST hold them.

Is anyone else annoyed by the inconsistent scale of the Eaglemoss line? There's no way to get a complete set of the major Enterprises (sorry; I'm excluding NX-01 and NCC 1701-F from this discussion).

In the ~1:5000 scale, you have the following available from Eaglemoss:

The thing is, we know Eaglemoss can do it! They've produced an Enterprise-B that's 0.139 meters in length (1:3360 scale) and another that's 0.267 meters in length (1:1749 scale). Could they not split the difference and produce one in ~1:2500 scale? Same with the Enterprise-C that's made by Eaglemoss in both 0.140 meters (1:3714) and 0.256 meters (1:2031) -- again, just split the difference to get to ~1:2500 scale.

Based on my research, there are [COLOR="red"]three[/COLOR][COLOR="red"][/color][COLOR="red"][/color] ways you can get a complete set of Enterprises all in the same in-universe scale. For the purposes of our discussion, I am mostly limiting the options to pre-painted plastic/diecast models that are comparable (or at least, acceptable alternatives) to the Eaglemoss line. If we open it up to unpainted plastic kits (to include 3-D printed versions), I'm sure there are lots of other options out there, but that's beyond the scope of this post.

Finally, by far the easiest way to do this is to go big. AMT makes all of the major Enterprises in 1:2500 scale.

And the easiest way to do that is to just get AMT's comprehensive 7-in-1 Enterprise 1:2500 scale model kit and be done with it.


AMT also has a 3-in-1 kit kit with the original Constitution class, the Enterprise-A, and the Enterprise-B:


As well as individual 1:2500 scale model kits for the Enterprise-C:


A 1:2500 scale model kit for the Enterprise-D:


And a 1:2500 scale model kit for the Enterprise-E:


This is what they look like assembled (these new decals cover most of the ships so you can get by without painting, though precise modelers will undoubtedly want to add the appropriate accents and details):


Two additional notes. First, AMT also came out with a 3-in-1 kit with the original Constitution class, the Enterprise-A, and the Enterprise-D. This kit is a few decades old (literally) and does not come with the extensive decals as the newer AMT kits, so I'm not including it in this discussion (since it's both redundant and obsolescent):


Second, AMT also came out with a 3-in-1 kit with the Enterprise-B, Enterprise-C, and Enterprise-E. This kit is also older and does not come with the extensive decals found in the newer AMT kits, so again, I'm excluding it from discussion.

In conclusion, [COLOR="red"]any word on whether Eaglemoss plans to release a set of Enterprises all in the same in-universe scale?[/COLOR][COLOR="red"][/color][COLOR="red"][/COLOR] I like to think there's far more of a market for an accurate 1:5000 or 1:2500 scale set of all the major Enterprises than the random concept models, one-offs, and shuttlecraft that Eaglemoss has been producing lately (e.g. a replica of Archer's Toy Ship -- really? Are a lot of people buying that?)

I don't mind they're not in scale, they're built, as far as I'm aware to stay within a certain price point.

As you have extensively gone over, there are other options available.

 

I'm pretty sure my Eaglemoss USS Franklin is roughly to scale with my Art Asylum Enterprise NX-01.

 

They're box scale - to save money in production costs. There was never any intention on the part of Eaglemoss to make them all one scale, which would have been impractical considering the comparative sizes of some of the more massive vessels involved (Fesarius, Borg Rebel Vessel, Enterprise-J, Voth City Ship, Think Tank, etc.) That's all that needs to be said about it.

 

I've noticed the BSG models seem a lot better quality then the Star Trek models, at least from pictures/videos, I don't own any (yet)

 

I would wager that's because most of them were likely modeled off the original mesh source (the NuBSG ones, anyway). The TOS models have been fewer and far between because they would need to have been built from scratch and/or 3D scanned and cleaned up - a much more labor-intensive process requiring a lot of up-front investment. I was kind of disappointed with the TOS BSG model. It's certainly good - I'd give it a B- overall, but its proportions are definitely off - the main engines in the back are way too big and the ship kind of bows oddly from the middle to the front, but it's a million times better and more accurate than the old Revellogram kit from the 70's.

 

They're also bigger and cost a wee bit more.

 

I got the Conestoga today (among other things), bit it looks like the journey to Terra Nova was a little rough, because one of the little rocket nozzles came off and was sliding around in the box. Before I contact Eaglemoss, I'm gonna try and repair it myself, which will be tricky, as the surface area is EXTREMELY small. I'll let you know.

 

No, I am glad for it. Scale is all well and good if all you care about is the “Hero” ships, but as you aptly demonstrated, somebody who wants a set of the Enterprises to scale can pretty much get them from AMT, or one of the many small independent modeling companies.

But I didn’t want yet another iteration of the same 7 or so ships. I HAVE those ships already, sometimes twice over.

I wanted this collection for the ships that DON’T get made in those sets. And if you want those ships, you have to accept that they won’t be built to the same scale, because they can’t be, because the scales and sizes are just too different. I didn’t want a microscopic Runabout or to have to build a Large Quonset hut to store the Voth city ship. In my eyes, the sets that TRY for scale, like Romando, just end up making the ships I want the most far too tiny for my liking.

That said, good on you for posting about the options for people who might want them that way, so they know what’s out there.

 

So, I managed to glue the broken piece back on the Conestoga yesterday. It wasn't easy, as I don't exactly have surgeon's hands, and I was left with the feeling of dried glue on my fingertips for the rest of the day. The alignment with the other three engines isn't perfect, but I can live with that over waiting for EM to send another.

I also got the Phase II Enterprise. It's this strange hybrid of the color and secondary hull from Matt Jeffries' original design, with texture on the saucer and nacelles more similar to Andy Probert's refit design. I really like it.

My main purchase, however, was another shuttle set. As with the last one I got, there were two shuttles I was excited about and two, not so much. The Galileo from ST5 looks great. I always regretted that Galoob never made a Micro Machine of this one. I really like the Voyager shuttle as well. The Spacedock shuttle (which they're calling a tug here, for some reason) and the air tram are well made, but those designs didn't really interest me.

 

I know the feeling. I received my Runabout today, and half of the little pod on top is disconnected. I may try to glue it, but I think the Runabouts look better without the pod, so I may just break it off completely. I'm going to think about it for a few days before I do anything.

 

It definitely looks better without the pod, but I just don't have the nerve to break mine.

A year or two ago, I dropped my Nebula class, causing the pod to break off, but this proved to be a blessing in disguise, because the pod was always misaligned and this gave me an opportunity to glue in on right.

 

What do people think about the redesign on the US site for Eaglemoss. Personally I am not a fan. Before was divided first by type (Like XL, Shuttles, binders, Specials, exclusives, and then regular, and within each section it was put in release order. Now everything in the collection is in reverse release order, with no separation between the type of ship in the collection. So if I want the Franklin, I now have no idea on roughly were in the release list to look. Previously I knew it was probably on the 3rd or 4th page depending on how many ships were sold out. Now I have to try and remember where that release was in relationship to the entire collection. THat's not a big issue within the main collection, but I have no idea when Special 7 came out in relationship to regular line issue.

 

They still have that. You just have to choose by brand and then you can choose XL, Specials, Exclusives...

Thanks, I didn't see those controls, and with the Price high to low or low to high option I can now filter for specials, since I don't see a separate option for them like there is for XL or Exclusives.

 

That ship deserves to be all metal and to be a foot long.
