Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I’ve come to like the final Discovery version a lot.

But I also find the mushroom slats on the saucer visually appealing. Reminder of the Freedom class,

I just think the Discovery’s nacelles are ridiculously longer than they need to be. The original version had it right.
I have no problem with the Warp Nacelle's aft length past the Warp Nacelle Pylons, but if you are going to make it that long, they should make the front half of the Nacelle's longer to balance it out.

A lot of Season 1 promotional material had the nacelles shorter, and I believe some console screen graphics still showed the shorter nacelles early on.

But it's odd, because there is concept art showing the longer nacelles that is dated to the December 2016, a whole 6 months or so before the promotional material started being released.

Id be game for a Disco Concept ship. I wasn't a huge fan of the whole "mushroom fins" inbetween the rings when it debuted. Im not sure if the negative space was a huge improvement (and the whole spinning saucer to bleed off excessive mycelial energy is a bit...wtf?! lol) but I have grown to love the design.

I received my D7 today from the Disco subscription. Last time I posted in the thread I was ticked because Eaglemoss skipped over Issue # 18 and send me the Disco Shuttle #20 with no explanation. It was odd, they never responded to my email, but the next shipment I received included the missing issue as well as a Disco binder that I had asked about.

I need to build another shelf to display them on, as I am now running into the issue of having more ships to display than space available. It has caused me to stack the Disco boxes on either side of the shelf.

I can't tell you how much fun it is walking into them in the middle of the night on a trip to the bathroom and having the sarcophagus ship box land on me noggin. I also have no one to blame but myself for this. It is what it is.

Ill post some pics of the D7 when I get back from dinner at my brother's house. If anyone is looking for a decent look at any of the Disco line ill be happy to post some photos.

Pics of Sarcophagus Ship Box about to land on your noggin =D

There may be more differences between the concept and production version than we know. If the original model was lost, scrapped, or redone into the newer version, they might need to rebuild it from scratch. While concepts may work with the smaller models in the main line, it appears that Disco ships generally need to be in the larger scale (by contract, perhaps, like the Abramsverse ships?), in which they may conceivably loose money in the pre-production of it. I honestly don't know what the complexities would be in putting out the original. If fan demand is that high, they might break even if they needed to do a whole new build, as opposed to refitting (or retrofitting?) the current production version of it back to its original state.

There were three versions of Discovery made before the show; the Comic-Con teaser version, the final version, and a third version made by the original, disbanded VFX team, which was a less crappy-looking take on the teaser version (no saucer gaps, shorter nacelles), which was seen in a couple of leaked test renders. In my head-canon, the original VFX team’s model is the base Crossfield-class, without any spore drive modifications.

That model looks high-quality enough to be the base for an EM miniature. The show’s probably just too fresh for the producers to be comfortable publicizing their discarded material. “Buy the version of Discovery that was too good for those studio hacks!”

Better to let the final version solidify its position in the pantheon before releasing the road-not-taken alternates.

Moral of the story: don't pay Eaglemoss for expedited shipping. Bought some books on Wednesday, April 15th. Just now got sent, and should be here Monday, the 27th.

Oh, and it is in Greenwood, Indiana... which is about 100 miles from me.

You're not being affected by Covid-19 like the rest of the planet. That's brilliant for you!

On a more serious not, I would think if they can't deliver the same services they did pre-pandemic, maybe they shouldn't have offered the service.

Not at all. If it had taken a week to get here, no harm. But I had to actually e-mail them to get them to send the order out, after five days. Then it is taking another week after that to get it to me from 100 miles away.

And this isn't the first time with them, or with a lot of people I see here talking about Eaglemoss. It seems like shitty customer service and delays are the name of their game, regardless of circumstance.
