General Computer Thread

Your thread was closed, no need to start the same stuff in here, this is NOT the thread for it, so do me a favour, either talk about general computing or leave this thread alone.

I have repeatedly told people in the other thread that you're supposed to report problematic posts instead of acting like a mini mod.

See: Here and here.

Judging from the content of your post here it is completely obvious that you have read that thread so you must have seen those posts I made as well. Yet you did exactly what I asked people not to do because it's against the rules.
You will agree that this looks pretty deliberate. Expecting to get away with this is really testing mod patience. When you see problematic stuff, hit the report button, don't engage and derail further. Create less work for mods, not more. Comments to PM obviously.

Where's the report button? Seriously, I can't even find it right now...

The Linux Mint team has started working in the Mint 20.xx cycle, guess it will support the Ryzen APU's better than 19.xx since the whole thing is based on Ubuntu LTS 20.04, it will use the 5.4 kernel.
I'll have to see if my older machines can run it, I've got an old Athlon x2 4450e that runs at 2.3Ghz and the single core Sempron 145, the 19.x series use an older kernel which is better suited for these.

The passmark score of my Sempron 145 is 434 that is the slowest machine I have in general use at the moment, the R5 2600X I use has a score of 14183.
Quite the difference, but one is a single core without smt or whatever and the other a 6 core 12 thread chip which runs between 3.6 and 4.2Ghz, so the R5 is 32,6797 times faster than the Sempron, and yes, this was a totally useless yet fun comparison.

I am running Linux Mint 19.3 mate - it is very nice..-- :) ubuntu was not getting the follow thru and support It used to get..

in an obviously detailed question to the exact problem occuring -I will ask about this.. -- I am using Quartz Composer on the Macbook Pro 2018 refurb I have gotten this month yeah :) 00 it arrived cinco de mayo -- the only unsolvable thing going on -- (so far) is the quartz composer full screen problem. :( and because explaining this would be kinda difficult I will show you with the video of desktop screen .. and what it is exactly via a mic verbal record---

yeah there is the settings in the preferences of quartz composer that do nothing or make the problem just the same.. so changing the full screen size still has this display corner output .. It might be in the coding of the thing right? -- then I would open the program in Xcode and get really deep from there probably with out any luck for this problem so IDK

the work around is the have the screen record only record the section of screen before going full screen .. that appears as the output to the patch programming..--

HELP? anything? I am going with the work around till something is found. :(

I am also asking at fb where I uploaded the video ---

I did Duckduckgo around a little, someone with screen problems updated something called AlphaBlendMode.plugin which solved it for him.
Maybe there's a broken or not up to date plugin or so that's causing your problems.

this is like the settings to map the graphics patch to the full screen.. when it is in full screen mode. so-- the results I get now are being mapped to the bottom left quadrant of the full screen .. the actual results I need are when I go to full screen the patch is mapped to the full screen and not just the bottom left corner of the screen.. seems like a setting in the full screen function going on.. to me.. I have no idea where this setting is.. or what to do to change it to correctly place the output to the full screen.? IDK. I looked just now over the apple developer stuff.. no luck .. but I will keep looking..

What is annoying is I solved this problem in 2012 with my macbookpro and did not have any difficulties but. that was then.. --- I also spilled a cup of coffee into the that macbook pro and it died right there with big sparks -- ;( now I have a mac book pro again thanks to the stimulus thing.. yeah I spent it on a mac book pro :) --- loving it.-- this is that I can not remember back before sandy to what I did to reconfigure this problem correctly :(. preferences in the program don't solve this and there are no other preferences that I know of. :(. it is a simple problem really === I think just a map to the center of the screen rather than the bottom left corner. :(

I wish I had the knowledge to help, I never even touched a Mac and also I never heard of that program before.
Same with Windows 10, can't help anyone with that, never used it, probably never will if all goes well.

It's Time.........

I think my GPU is on its way out ... I've already spent way more money then I wanted to on a new CPU, ram, and motherboard, essentially now have a brand new PC with the exception of my GPU.

I've looked on google and my favourite computer retailers here locally in Aus. but with so many choices I really am not sure what to buy as a replacement.

Current system is

Ryzen 52600
16gig DDR4 ram
Asus Prime B450 plus mainboard
Still using my R9 380 from my old build.

Powering this is a 650 watt PSU.

Radeon RX 5600XT /Geforce GTX 2060/super would be the go to cards for such a machine, maybe even a RX 5700/ GTX 2070/super of course these are more expensive, for lower cost RX 580 or RX 590 also might do the trick.

How would those cards fare with games like GTA V? I get a good 110 fps with the 380 but for other things its showing its age.

For my budget the RX 580 with 4gig is looking like something my wallet would like.

Powerconsumption of a Radeon RX 580 8GB is about 260 watt maximum a R9 380 uses around 230 watts maximum so there's no problem there.
