a new hire for a new show

And the real bottom line is that, while I might not be able to prove it. it is certainly in line with what KK would do. She is rich AF, and entitled AF, and every damn interview she ever does is about how she wants to insert her agenda into Star Wars.. and it might be just my belief.. yet there is more evidence that it is true than there will be any evidence that a Rian Johnson trilogy will ever happen even though MOST of the people here believed (or still believe) that will happen.

Look at Wrinkle in Time.. a movie made to show the greatness of diversity. Not only did it set diversity back because it was universally considered a crappy film.. but it's now infamous because it actually divided the audience.. and wanted to thrive on dividing the audience, rather than uniting them. Brie Larson (about 40 year old white men: "This movie wasn't made for you."

Fine.. but Star Wars, the greatest franchise in all of entertainment.. was made for EVERYONE. It was birthed from a need to put aside all that cynicism and unease this country wore like a badge of honor in the 70s, and it united us as culture in ways Lucas or the studio never could have imagined because it was a solid story.. regardless of the races or genders involved.. it was a human story told on a grand scale.

And I love it here.. I really love it how instead of arguing with me, everyone is just like "FSM, you hate women. Everything you've ever posted indicates that you hate women".. when that is a strawman.. absolutely no argument because.. you don't actually feel like arguing with the real me. Again.. maybe I am crazy to think that KK (or someone in her circle) or Headlund (or someone in her circle) leaked the story. It is quite a jump to make. Yet i'm very cynical of everything that Lucasfilm says and does after there have been more ditched announcements and failed projects in Disney's tenure as owners of Lucasfilm than there have been successful ones.. and I know myself.. a lover of Star Wars..

Dude, I think you really just need to chill. It’s a TV series. That may or may not be made. You have written a short story’s length about how much this has bothered you. I may find the rationale a little silly but you have the right to be offended. I’m not going to tell you you can’t be.

However, no one here is really agreeing with you. And it doesn’t seem like you’re changing opinions. So why are you putting so much energy into this? Just chill, man.

Well first of all.. like I've said.. people have dissed me personally.. they have said I hated women. They were wrong and they still are. And it had me fuming for many months.

Secondly, the whole point of a forum is that not everyone has to agree.. otherwise there would not be a discussion at all. And it seems so easy for people to throw personal insults at me.. yet.. you know I've been a SW fan literally all of my life. And I care about it enough that I'll argue as long as needed

If someone has insulted you personally, notify the mods. Don’t take things into your own hands or you might be the one in trouble.

And I respect that differing opinions exist and can be shared here but you’ve said your piece. And if that’s the hill you want to die on, that’s your choice. If it was me, I think I’d just move on to other topics. But you do you.

I added this as you wrote your comment I'll just add it now
So let me get this straight. I assume that you are all Star Wars fans.. being in this thread., and a new show announcement has you all psyched.. yet the only thing you know about the show is the the type of genitalia that the main characters (and maybe the target audience) will have. I thought SW fans would be interested in the story. The context. How it fits into the Star Wars universe. Is it before the original films? Is it after the sequels. Is it a "what if" elseworlds show? Is it an alternate time line? Would Star Wars even do that? Yet nope you guys are just interested because it's a show and it will have FEMALES IN IT and.. wait for it--- they will slap that STAR WARS logo on it.

I'm really really happy for you. And you justify this shallow nonsense by calling this a victory for inclusivity. What a joke!

I'm actually meh on the show premise so far. I am not exactly thrilled to go see another show about ninja's whether they are female or not. But nothing in their tells me that it's going to be bad just because of some agenda. It tells me very little actually other than it might exist assuming it doesn't go the way of so many other projects that seem to never make it. To top it off I don't even care if she is a asshole to be honest in real life. You know how many artist I have loved their work despite coming off as people I would not want to be around.. Many who have done lots worst than being a asshole. All she has to do is not break the law and make a good show. I know you will say something like if she hates men or whatever that will effect the quality but just look at John Lennon. Treated women terrible and mocked disabled people but he wrote some of the most moving lyrics and songs ever.

Seems like you're the one most concerned about what's between everybody's legs. You really should seek help for this obsession, it isn't healthy.

Yes, and that story continues to be great. That has not changed.

What has changed is the times, the culture and the perception of current people. The idea that we need more than the white male hero to save the day in stories, and not just in Star Wars but in other places too. That's what is being asked here, not destroying anything but expanding.

The supposed "agenda" is not malicious like is being argued in these posts. It is the perception of malice that fuels disagreement. And, thus far, the nebulousness of this supposed agenda is without proof, so it will get dismissed without proof.

I don't really visualize genitalia constantly as you seem to do. I'd like to think I don't know anyone that does. Are you sure you want to preface that with "get this straight"? If you're that obsessed about it, it seems unhealthy. Most people just go punch the clown and get on with their daily business.

And beyond that ickyness, when does anyone get to know the details about a plot, etc before they know basic descriptors of the production staff (ooooh.. STAFF!) cast, and so forth? When was the last time you saw the reverse. Was there some ancient greek play advertised on play bills as?

no one can be as obtuse as you are being right now.

Let’s be real here, and talk about this issue in relationship to how you go about being “inclusive” shall we.?
Campea was on his own show, talking about this new Lucasfilm hire and the new show. He said: “I can already hear the manbabies crying ‘why is it female-centric, there’s an agenda' .. let’s just put that to bed and not tough on this again, shall we? They’ve already got three other series that are all male lead, that means right now, that means that if this comes out and it’s only four shows, that’s 75% that are male lead and they got one that’s going to happen to be a female lead one, deal with it. And just move on, can we move on?
I don't know who Campea is (don't explain it, I can Google) or why he merits the one-name treatment and obsessiveness from you like he's as well known as Madonna or Cher, but what he said above is spot-on. And yet, even knowing that, you perfectly encapsulated everything he criticized.

Nice, right? You guys are probably telling me the same thing. Except, when he did that show, he had a female cohost on his show with him by the name of Erin Cummings. She said: “I really, really loathe the descriptor of female-lead. .. and here is why: I love the idea of a predominantly female cast, I think it’s fantastic. But my problem is.. Why are you only releasing the fact that it is female-centric show, oh and they are going to be doing some kung-fu, whatever, like WHY SAY THAT, like could you read me the headline again, except, take out “female centric” and just pit “male centric” “ She goes on (after Campea refuses to actually go back and read the headline in that way. “These other shows that you talk about that are predominantly male driven, nobody says “we have this upcoming series, no one is going to tell you anything about it, but it’s going to be predominantly men.. And that’s exactly what this is saying and for me, yes, I want to see shows with MORE women - obviously - but you don’t have to say that is the selling point. Tell me a little bit about the story - make me fall in love with the story because ultimately, because if the show does fail, then it looks like the show failed because it was female-centric, not because of a million other factors it could have failed by - and also, when the first news of it is ‘female-centric’ I know that there is a lot of people - NOT JUST MEN - also some women, who are like .. all right I’m not interested in that, I’m tuning that out.”
You know why they don't usually make announcements about "male-centric" shows coming out? Because male-centric shows are by far the majority of shows, so it's not noteworthy in any way to point that out.

So let me get this straight. They obviously don't want to release the story details yet, so they're releasing some production info instead. Pretty standard stuff.

Genitalia and gender are two separate things, and you are weirdly obsessed with the gender of the people making and acting in Star Wars.

I wasn't interested or even aware of this series before, but I am more interested now that they've mentioned it will be made by the co-creator and showrunner of the outstanding Russian Doll (you wouldn't like it).

And the real bottom line is that, while I might not be able to prove it. it is certainly in line with what KK would do. I'm sorry, did you just negatively single out Kathleen Kennedy for being rich as if that was some kind of unique trait in this franchise?

So, just to recap, with absolutely no proof, you blamed Kathleen Kennedy for this, roped in Brie Larson and A Wrinkle in Time because you're still crying about that two years later, and bitched about Rian Johnson again for no reason? Just throw in the Ghostbusters-remake and it'll be like your broken record of Grossest Hits. You need to move on with your life.

Well first of all.. like I've said.. people have dissed me personally.. they have said I hated women. They were wrong and they still are. And it had me fuming for many months.
Awww, boo hoo. Think about how people have felt with you shitting all over this forum for the past two years, derailing threads, poisoning the well in others, beating a dead horse on your same agenda over and over again despite hating agendas so much. You've driven people away from this forum but all you care about is you.

You know, there's some great Clone Wars episodes going on right now, why not focus on that instead of whining about the same damn thing you've been whining about for years? Everyone knows where you stand. You're not informing us of anything new or interesting. You're just clogging the toilet with more shit.

There is actually a lot of good Star Wars content being put out, and even more for a person to go back and in enjoy.

Some needs to explain to me why I should care about this announcement. What impact does it have on my life as a Star Wars fan? I don't agree with many casting or business decisions in Hollywood...yet there is jack all I can do about it.

Is there such a feeling of powerlessness right now that we have to create things to be outraged over?

There is so much shit going on just in the U.S. with how certain government officials are handling the current pandemic, that there is no shortage of real, important things to be outraged over. Getting pissed over a Star Wars show is..., well, it's small. And petty.

Yes, but at least with the political stuff I can point to different elements and discuss the handling. Regardless of political affiliation I can look at timelines and numbers and the like and make up my own mind and take steps if I feel necessary. Bitching about politics only does so much.

I can't figure out this "agenda" that is going on supposedly with Star Wars. And that's more baffling to me.

You do realize that shows that try to be inclusive.. when that simple objective comes before anything else, they are actually more divisive, not less. Also, you do realize that you can make a hundred shows and not include everyone. What about x group that is left out? What about the idea that most people don't like to be pandered to, especially when watching escapist entertainment?

BTW.. WW84 looks great.. oh wait.. am I allowed to say that? It has a female hero and a female villain. Looks great.

I would watch an all female Star Wars.. but it would depend on the plot, the characters, the writing, the setting, the look and the feel.. the context. I'm down. But they told us none of that. But being female was the SELLING POINT for Oceans 8, GB16 and Charlies Angels.. and the fact that no one liked those films didn't matter.. their producers still blamed white, middle-aged men for why they failed.

I'm for female led shows and movies.. but the feminist agenda feels less creative and more like a cancer . Especially when we should care about story than gender or color or anything else. No one was calling for more oriental people in SW but when one was added, we were all happy about it. It fit the story.. I don't think any issues either positive or negative were made about it. It just was.

How do you know their is going to be a agenda with what little info we have on the show? I know you have that clip which bugs people were she says white woman doesn't count as diverse but I assume she is talking about how white men and white woman when casting can often be seen as the default expectation so you have to sort of speak up to make it so more people of color are considered in the casting process.

You know, I think it's about time we should just stop even responding to @Flying Spaghetti Monster. It's clear that all it does is drag these pointless conversations on and we all end up just repeating the same things every time, and it's obviously not going to stop until we stop.

This series is early in the development phase. I'm not going to worry about what may or may not be in the series until we get some real information.

And JD is right.
