a new hire for a new show

I might add alone that this announcement alone has nor forever trivialized the franchise. I won't argue that in the past, for about 30 years the central characters were always male. but they never went out of their way to tell people that the films and were male- centric or that they were aimed at a male audience. That would have been stupid. That would have been dumber than filming the prequels on green screen sets and over-processing them in a computer. They made the films for everyone. With one announcement the brand has been tarnished forever.. and everyone has been insulted.
Nope. Unless I don't count as everyone, in which people can be insulted.

This is trying to find offense where none is given.

So why won't they talk about it.. even leave an open-ended slot on their website.. or tell us something about the show, the time period? Isn't it odd that the only thing we know about the show is that it's female centric? Considering the entertainment climate right now, is that really the one aspect of the show they want to pimp BEFORE anything else?

Because this announcement wasn't for you, or me, or any of the other fans. This announcement was for Wall Street. Like most studios in the entertainment industry, Disney is largely financed by their perceived worth, they are all heavily in debt. To keep getting new loans to keep business running, they have to have projects in development that are perceived as very likely money-makers. The time period, the actual premise, those mean nothing to investors. But female centric?! Hey, look, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel made a lot of money, couple that with Star Wars, and the creator of highly praised new TV show, hell yeah people gonna invest in that.

Way too reasonable of a response here...

The announcement was actually made as a last ditch attempt to get something of her version of a female-led SW in the works before her term as President expires.. and we all know that Iger was speaking for her lately and that she has been without any real power for some time. And so this story comes out and forces the hand of Disney to at least consider making this. I kind of believe that anyone that thinks I'm stretching ti are the same people that believed a Rian Johnson trilogy was actually going to happen .. so yes I could be wrong, but no more wrong than those people

Female centric is not the way to pomp a show that hasn't even had a single story written or a single character sketched out. It's only a way to grab a headline and chart the wrong course right from the dock.

Iceberg, right ahead!

Well, don't let the fact that just for starters this is self-contradictory stop you from believing in it.

My question is rhetorical by the way. this is not a show Disney would ever plan on making and that Variety was writing the story based on a deliberate scoop from KK or Headlund or someone close to them. I won't be able to cinematic you of that, except to say that there is no reason to announce THIS show in THIS way right now.. the shareholders blah blah blah.. they'd rather hear that the current business and the current projects already out there can be completed.. that's what they want to hear right now
Because they are not ready to talk about the show yet, the announcement was not about the show, it was about how they are working with one of the co-creators of a big hit Netflix show.
As much as it might piss you off, a lot of people are really supportive of trying to get more women in bigger roles in front of and behind the camera, so this was another chance for them to do both.
And typically they are not going to hire a woman, who just made her name co-creating a show focused on a woman, to do another show about a guy.

Who cares?

You really do have no idea how this industry works, do you.

Let's not let that stop our reckless speculation.

Indeed.
Just like it was pure speculation to believe that Rian would have his own trilogy. And that the GIT guys would gave their own trilogy. Or that Trank would gave a Boba Fett film? Or that Trevarrow would have episode 9 done for a may 2019 release. Or that Solo would have no production problems

Oh... wait..

(Scaratches head)

Maybe this is all about leadership. Maybe it is all about vision.. or the lack thereof. Why would uou need vision when the franchise can be a perfect soap box?

Art reflects life. Neither new nor offensive. Again, this is trying to find an insult for no other reason than to be insulted.

This project affects fans in no way. If you don't like it then don't watch it.

I mean, I'm deep into sci-fi hobbies and even write fanfilms but I can't imagine that any female character or studio hire connected to a franchise I like is going to make me feel like less of a man.
