Redemption
New season, New Network, New Cast Member, this episode pretty much served as a bit of a series premiere. Yes I know it's the start of Season 6, but it really did feel like if you haven't watched the series before, this would have been a decent place to start. Anubis shows his power by launching a computer program to impact that gate networks, we see Teal'c's family again, especially Ryac, and there is a doomsday scenerio in which Jack saves the planet again. I liked this two parter, and I actually found McKay a little bit more tolerable. I still think he's a jerk, but it wasn't as overt this time as it was in his introduction. I also liked how there was an A and B plot that worked to achieve the same goal.
As for Jonas, I think I like him. Maybe he's trying too hard to be Daniel Jackson, but he blames himself for Daniel's death and wants to prove to the team and to himself that he can make a difference. That's a nice starting point and while I will miss Daniel, I'm keeping an open mind on what Jonas will do this season.
Descent
So Thor may not be dead. Is Mind was just on Anubis's mothership and he could be cloned into another Asgard. Way to take elements from the Season 5 finale and tell a gripping and well done story. Also, I'm liking Jonas more with each episode. In the beginning he was bored, and in the end he saved the day and got to fly in a Goa'uld death glider. Also, everything Jack says is still gold, like saying next time they can keep the Goa'uld mothership.
This might be a better start than Season 5, but it's still early.
