I’m happy to announce that, at last, the eSpec Books Kickstarter campaign for my new original novel Arachne’s Crime is underway!

(Mod Note: link removed search for Christopher L. Bennett on kickstarter.com)

The book is being bundled with To Hell and Regroup, the conclusion to military SF author David Sherman’s The 18th Race trilogy. According to the Kickstarter site:

I announced Arachne’s Crime and its sequel Arachne’s Exile at Shore Leave last year, and I’d hoped to have at least the first book out already, but various delays have befallen it. Rather than let things be delayed any further by the current crisis, we’ve decided to go ahead in spite of it. We know that money is tight for a lot of people right now, but we also know that people need books to read to help them occupy their minds and keep their spirits up through all of this. So we hope you can help us achieve our goals. If a lot of people donate just a little bit each, it’ll add up.

eSpec Books has started a new crowdfund for two science fiction novels by three authors, two of whom are familiar to y'all posting here.....

To Hell and Regroup is the final book David Sherman's "18th Race" trilogy of military science fiction novels. Trek author Keith R.A. DeCandido (that's me) edited the first two novels, Issue in Doubt and In All Directions, and David asked me to collaborate on the third book with him, which concludes the action-packed trilogy about the North American Union military forces fighting against the invading alien "Dusters."

Arachne's Crime is the first of a planned duology by Trek author Christopher L. Bennett about encountering alien species in a twisted tale of blame and redemption. Christopher first announced this last July at Shore Leave, and it's finally going forward now.

I know times are really hard right now, and not everyone has extra money to spend on things, but I also know that quality entertainment is one of the things that will get us through this nonsense. So please, consider supporting these projects, even if it’s only a $1 pledge. And hey, the first batch of supporters get some free stories, too!

And even if you can’t support, any signal-boosting you could do would be hugely appreciated.

I quoted the announcement from the Kickstarter page that mentioned your name. I figured that would cover it.

Backed! Also, as more funding is received (it's already fully funded), stretch goals will unlock extra short stories from various authors, including KRAD & CLB, in various electronic formats. And even more works are available as add-ons. Worth checking out...

Yes, right now we've already funded Arachne's Crime and To Hell and Regroup, as well as unlocking the bonus stories "House Hunting" by Keith and "Vein Glory" by me. As of this writing, we're only $98 short of unlocking the next short story, and $1098 away from funding Arachne's Exile.

As of this evening, the Kickstarter has passed $2000 and unlocked John L. French's short story "Slow and Steady." Right now we're at $2183, more than halfway to the next stretch goal at $2300, the short story "Child of the Wood" by Jeff Young. After that, at $2700 is KRAD's story "Alien Invasion of Earth!", and then comes Arachne's Exile at $3000.

John French is good people. :)

The Kickstarter is now at $2501, and we're just $499 shy of funding Arachne's Exile. Please consider supporting!

Yes, indeed. It's worth noting that the Arachne books were originally one really long novel, until I realized it worked better as two. While the story naturally breaks down into two distinct stages, they’re still two halves of a greater whole, with the second book expanding the narrative to a much grander scope. If we get Exile funded in this campaign, we can hopefully get both books out reasonably close together. And we're so close now.

As part of eSpec Books’s ongoing campaign to raise Kickstarter funds for my Arachne’s Crime/Arachne’s Exile duology and To Hell and Regroup by David Sherman & Keith R.A. DeCandido, and as part of the eSpec Books Author Reading Series of videos of authors reading their work, here is me hamming it up as I read an excerpt from Chapter 1 of Arachne’s Crime:

I just backed the project, and at the 15 dollar level so I can get Christopher's anthology as well.

    WE DONE DID IT!

We've blown past the $3000 stretch goal threshold, so now we're crowdfunding THREE books! One by me (To Hell and Regroup, co-written with David Sherman) and two by @Christopher (Arachne's Crime AND Arachne's Exile).

The pledge tiers and the add-ons have been adjusted to accommodate the third book, so if you want to adjust your pledge or make use of an add-on so you can get both of Christopher's books, now's the time to do it.....

    Check it out!

Thanks to all our backers! This is great news.

And remember, I've got one more work of fiction to unlock, the Arachne prequel story "Comfort Zones" at $3600.
