What You Expected vs. What We Got

I'm not a writer. You don't need to be a writer to notice bad writing. Just like Discovery season 2 it started off ok but got progressively dumber with each passing episode.
I thought the writing was better than it’s been in a long time. There are issues with this show as there are with any on television at any time period ever. You’re not a writer? Are you a critic? I couldn’t stand ENT, but I didn’t hang out in the ENT board.

Not bizarre. Appropriate. He was asked to produce his take on Trek. Not “the fans’” take. He should absolutely not care if fans are divided. They’re ALWAYS divided. Rather than engaging in some quixotic attempt to please “the fans” in the (futile) hope they won’t be divided, he wisely chose to do what he wanted and let the audience decide after. As it should be with ALL artistic endeavours, commercial or otherwise.
The show is filled with attempts at trying to please "the fans". That's why there's so many memberberries in it.

Chabon's "take" on Trek is barely his at all, and it's barley worthy of being called an artistic endeavor. It's a corporate committee made amalgamation.

The premise of the show is a bastardization of a pitch Fuller originally made to CBS, combined with Stewart's clever idea about the Federation taking an isolationist turn. Add in a checklist of mandates from studio/producers and you've got Star Trek: Picard.

I liked the first season of Picard. Is it alright with you if I hang out here?

How much “spewage” is there on the internet? Do you like wading through it all? I don’t care if someone offers a critique that hasn’t been posted previously, or a new (if negative) perspective in something. But a “that sucks” offers even less than a “that was awesome.” At least the praise (though more pointless reading) is positive energy, on a fan board.

None of this remotely invalidates my point.

The premise of the show (or at least the first season) was Picard reuniting with Data, because even after four TNG films from several decades ago, it's still the Picard & Data Show. The 'isolationist Federation' stuff was barely a forethought.
