Can't remember off the top of my head. I will try and find it. I have numerous sites book marked about this subject matter.

Thanks @Maurice . I see what you are saying. I am writing from the perspective of a TNG fan. I need to look beyond that.

As for audience. My original intent was to write a pilot for a new series for network television. Not necessary complete, but a treatment I guess. What I personally prefer is an episodic show, not one with a main story arc like the shows today. I do like having a story arc that comes into play from time to time. Just not all encompassing. So basically I am writing for pure selfish purposes. lol Now, I am an unknown and was writing this knowing full well that it wouldn't be read by anyone in the business. I don't have the means to produce this myself.

The Breen attack was really a way to get Klingons out of the way and an excuse to bring in the Romulans. I am more interested in the politics that will occur between, the Romulans, Vulcans and The Federation. Conflicts with the Breen won't be the main arc if you will. But as said, I much prefer episodic. I like it when you don't know what to expect from week to week. This way you always get new aliens and planets from different writers. Some new characters will become fan favorites and then become recurring roles.

The main idea for me yes, is exploring the galaxy and having adventures along the way.

All TNG series of shows lasted 7 season. Highly successful. I know we all have different tastes, but the numbers don't lie.

I am in the process of trying to pitch an original series and I’ve done a lot of research into how it’s done.

But since you don’t expect anyone in the industry to read this (let alone buy it) I don’t know that formatting it professionally actually matters, other than learning to do so might help you better focus ideas you have for writing stories.

Cool dude. Best of luck with your pitch.

Yes learning and improving. That's always a goal of mine.

Yes, that is basically it. My intent was to write a pilot to be produced by a TV network. I didn't have much thought beyond that of what the show will end up being like. I haven't made it that far. Maybe never will. I did have some ideas for additional episodes, including 2 parter entitled 'The Rescue of Worf'

Since I envision an episodic show, it would be all of those at some point. One episode would have nothing to do with another. Not always of course. There would be a silly episode once or twice a season. I don't have an ultimate theme besides nostalgia. lol

Oh and in my opinion, DS9 was basically the same as TNG and VOY until they hit season 4. I guess being episodic wasn't working too well for a space station show so they went with the story arc instead.

A pilot is used to be a sample episode to demonstrate what a typical show would be like, not necessarily a first episode.

Anyway, it’s pretty apparent you never got much farther than a vague sketch so there’s really not much to discuss except what’s not there.

Well you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Don't feel obligated to partake if you don't want to.

@Bixby Some things may be answered when I post some of scenes. I am not going the 'dark' route. I have some lighthearted funny moments, like when Riker compliments Wesley's beard.

Suggestion. Grab a camera and a few people and see if you can put together a single scene. No sets or costumes required.

A test of yourself in production, direction and editing, can you get a natural flow of dialog from your players, and not just have people reading words on a page.

Gordie, not to toot my own horn here but I’ve created and maintained a number of topics here to help novice/prospective fan film writers and makers (see the Fan Filmmakers Launchpad). So I’ve always been more than willing to spend time helping people.

However, there needs to be something to discuss. You walked in, dropped a few pages of a very broad and fairly generic spin off, and then wait for people to react. We offered our opinions on what is and—largely—isn’t there. You haven’t articulated any next steps or what you’d like to learn/do, so honestly what’s left to discuss until you start contributing to your own thread in a more substantial way?

I asked the mods if this thread was OK. They said yes as long as their is a discussion. It may not be the discussion you want. You guys seem to be taking this far more seriously than I am.

@ maurice I appreciate all your help and insight, but I am cool with this project not going anywhere. I may have answers for your and @Bixby questions later on, but right now I am not there. I
I never posted this for the purpose of getting help from anyone. That said, all advice or insight is welcomed, not needed. I am here for more for fun then trying to get show on TV.

I do not editing privileges while still on my probationary period.

Oh and I do not consider myself a writer. This was an idea that I had in my with no intention of it being a show, it was just one scene that sort of snow balled and I decided to write it down and share.

Thanks for your post clarification that this is not a fan production. I leave to to madame @jespah to decide if this even belongs here now.

Just because it isn't what you want doesn't mean it isn't a fan production. I am a fan, I produced this.

You were literally harassing me for answers I didn't have. Your posts, in my opinion were more akin to a rules violation than mine.

It's funny how you think people have to follow your way of doing things to get things done.

Let me ask you this. How does an unknown, with no writing experience, no resume to speak of and no formal training get a script into the hands of large TV network producer?

They don't. You really aren't going to, sorry.

And @Maurice is right in the sense that this isn't strictly a fan production, per se. It's not because someone liked or didn't like something. It's that fan productions aren't pilots being sold to the IP holders (yeah, Renegades tried that, and look where they are now). A fan production is the sort of thing the Guidelines were created for. See: https://www.startrek.com/fan-films

I'm fine with it staying and I am sorry to burst your bubble, but the chances of you getting this in front of someone who can actually make something happen in the official Trekverse are exceptionally low.

I think Maurice’s point is that this is written fan fiction, rather than a fan film. This sub forum is mainly intended for fan films. Written fan fiction has its own sub-forum. :)
