Chabon Pitches Seven of Nine Spinoff

Anything more specific? What’s “kind of like the Maquis” mean? Are they terrorists?

They aren't terrorists. They operate in what used to be the Neutral Zone. They're peacekeepers who protect those who the Federation and Romulan Free State won't help.

I meant "kind of like" very loosely in that they operate independent of Starfleet. But they're not wanted by them. They're a third party.

Only problem is if they are Federation citizens basically shooting and killing people it means they are terrorist because they doing without the approval of the government is basically murder. Also if they are getting involved in alien worlds it means they are breaking the Prime Directive. Which brings up a interesting point. How does the Prime Directive involve Federation citizens not in Starfleet. I would think the Prime Directive would be something all citizens are held to and not just those in Starfleet.

The Neutral Zone is not in Federation Space, so Federation laws and the Prime Directive don't apply. Also, if the theory about Seven keeping control of the Borg Cube is true, then that means that the Fenris Rangers effectively become the government (or the police force, at least).

"Stardust City Rag" struck me as an obvious backdoor pilot for Star Trek: Fenris Rangers when I first saw it. It is an interesting idea for a new series, and it does seem to fit the requirement that a new show with Seven feature her doing something interesting and different with the character.

Thanks. Not quite something I'd like to see an entire series about.

The big question is whether or not Jeri Ryan would be interested in committing to a new series. That she was willing to do some appearances on Picard does not mean that she would be willing to commit to headlining a new series. She may well have other projects in mind.

That said, the big reason that Ryan turned down other chances to come back as Seven in the past seem to have been creative ones. She rejected an appearance in Nemesis—maybe replacing Janeway in that movie, as rumoured—because, she said, it would make no sense for Seven to fill that position. We do have the outlines already of a new and potentially very creative status quo for a Seven-based series.

I feel like they'll bump Seven up to main character status in the second season of Picard. Something keeps telling me that.
Wait a minute, there's not a tiny bit possibility in you that 7 may get killed off by this season? Maybe an incy-wincy bit?

Nah. I know it's a bit of a meme that Picard is a death-fest, but I would be extremely surprised if anyone other than Narissa (and possibly Narek) get killed.

Elnor Spin-off, I'd watch. Don't care about Anika, tbh.
The most important thing is to get more content. This self isolating, social distancing stuff gets annoyingly boring in a very short period of time

Not this season, I don't think so. And I'd love for her to be a regular on PIC.

I mean, technically. But so far the only legacy characters they've killed off are ones who weren't in the main credits of a previous series.

I don’t know if they’d make it, but I’d watch it if they did. Same principle as Picard: doesn’t need to prominently feature VOY characters but it would be weird if some never showed up even for a bit.

The only credited characters killed off by Trek, Janice Rand and Tasha Yar and Jadzia Daz and Kes, were killed off as a result of producers having issues with the actors playing them. (Yes, I know Crosby asked to be dropped, but she would not have done this had she gotten more material.)

I do not see this happening with Seven or Nine right now, with Jeri Ryan. She and her character seem to be quite popular right now; a new show focused on her seems an obvious possibility.
