Chabon Pitches Seven of Nine Spinoff

Neither sounds particularly acceptable. It smacks of "inter arma enim silent leges" in both cases. One just sounds more morally righteous.

Might as well make a Star Trek: Maquis series with that basis.
I really don't need a 'morally grey' Trek show to begin with. I am super fine with TNGish righteousness. But if there has to be one, then I'd prefer it to be about downtrodden misfits who try to do their best with the little they have rather than about some clandestine and edgy super secret evil Federation organisation.

That's fair. I wouldn't argue for one or the other. I personally find that morally gray can exist even with righteous people and prefer that mix. That said, I would prefer the Rangers over Section 31 because spy stuff isn't really my bag.

I've noticed that some fans have a fondness for Voyager and seem to think that Seven should be joined at the hip to them for the rest of her life ("Janeway is the leader of the Fenris Rangers! Chakotay and Torres were Maquis, they should be Fenris Rangers too!) but that is just so contrary to how life actually works.

Seven of Nine is forty-eight years old. I want her to have lived a rich and fulfilling life. Voyager was such a claustrophobic environment, and she escaped it long ago.

But Star Trek isn't real life. People like to think of these crews as basically being families who have deep connected bonds with each other. It's not even something that is common only to Trek but also in most tv shows. On "The Office" is sort of starts off as a group of co-workers but then as time goes by you see them as a family. Same with most tv shows.

That's fair, I guess, but it destroys my suspension of disbelief very quickly.

That's pretty much the situation on the Borg cube.

I already got Seven a crew for her spin-off

1 EMH He was for hologram rights so I could see him wanting to help his friend.

2 Romulan engineer who is married to a Klingon scientist. They would both be what passes for nerds in Romulan and Klingon culture.

3 A captured Starfleet Admiral who holds important information they need from him.

4 Grown up Naomi Wildman. Second in command who left Starfleet Academy to join.

5 Her father who she was able to rescue from the collective. Though it would be okay if they recasted for a better actor.

If we get any returning old characters for the Fenris Rangers shoe, I think Bashir would work really well. Naomi Wildman would be kind of cool.

Sisko's unborn child would be an adult now. You could do anything with that character.
You could also do anything with a character who is not at all related to any of the old characters. 'A child of a character from the previous show' is usually a lame and pointless addition.

It's been TWENTY-ONE YEARS.

It would be pathetically awful if Seven was conjoined to the Voyager crew after all this time. It's okay for little birdies to leave the nest eventually. She's forty-eight years old. Let her live an interesting life.

Also, something else to consider. If (as I suspect she will) Seven gets to keep the Artifact at the end of Picard Season 1...then that will make the Fenris Rangers the most powerful faction in the Neutral Zone. Which means Seven will have to deal with something she's never experienced before: the responsibility of power. Suddenly, Seven finds that large numbers of people are relying on her to keep them safe.

If Seven does get a spinoff I want Betty White to play her cigar chompin, phaser rifle totin, name taking Aunt Irene.

Um, Chabon wasn’t serious. This isn’t happening.

FYI, comicbook.com isn’t a reliable site.
The Fenris Rangers were made a thing for a reason. Maybe they don't definitely have a spinoff in mind, but they laid some groundwork for one if they choose to do so.

Seven and Elnor would make a fun duo. Add a few more characters and give them an antagonist to fight, and you got Star Trek: Fenris Rangers

Could you please tell me who the Fenris Rangers are, again?

She held a command position within the Borg ("Survival Instinct"). She had the ear of the Borg Queen ("Dark Frontier").

It's not so much that she can't handle power so much as there's the possibility of bad habits rearing their ugly heads. :shifty:
