Donny's Refit Enterprise Interiors (Version 2.0)

Donny did wonders with the Grissom's bridge.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun fully realizing the Grissom bridge (although I'm considering re-working the viewscreen a bit) and want to push myself more at visualizing some stuff we never got to see, or only partially see. Although my re-mastering of the TWOK sets I've already done is necessary to bring them up to the quality bar I set with the corridors, it's not nearly as fun as doing something new.

I'm still not sure what I want to work on next yet. I was going to dip my toe back into TOS stuff for a minute, as I've been itching to do more sets from the two pilots, or explore some "what if" Klingon or Romulan interiors, or work on doing a Starbase setting of sorts. I've got so much I want to explore outside of the Enterprise, even though there are still a few TOS Enterprise sets I want to do (auxiliary control, finish sickbay, brig/security section, bowling alley, gymnasium, phaser control).

As far as TMP/TWOK Enterprise sets go, there's still a ton I want to do there too. Plus I do want to explore more Grissom or Reliant interiors. And then there's my unfinished Enterprise-A bridge. So much to do, so little time!

As far as the TSFS Excelsior Bridge, I still just don't have the will at this point to explore that. If the will ever strikes, you can bet I will tackle it. I'll keep bouncing it around in my head and see if there something about it that will excite me.

Have you considered the TMP recreation deck? It was a pretty major set in the film, yet it's never been seen again. I set some major sequences there in my upcoming novel The Higher Frontier, and it was interesting to study the screencaps and get some insights into the set that I'd never noticed before.

Herbarium (deleted scene, below)? Also used in ATCSL and ITITNB.

I definitely want to explore the TMP Rec Deck sometime soon! I've been looking for any production schematics for years but haven't turned up anything. I imagine the blueprint we got from MSGTTE was partially based on production schematics, so I can use that as a starting point, but wish I had a bit more to draw on for reference.

I'd love to do this set as well. The only thing that bothers me? The plants. I am not practiced at modeling plants, nor do I have a particular drive to spend a bunch of time modeling them. I could use existing plant models from various sources, but they won't really have that exotic TOS flavor to them. So....if I ever to model the Herbarium, I'd probably fill it with generic Earth-like plants, perhaps with some modifications to make them more colorful.

@Norsehound: I don't actually consider it a terrible stand-in bridge. Besides those concept images, the NX bridge has some cool (and barely seen) details in its final form, including an inverted "pit" for the helm/nav consoles. Rather than being a step down as on the Enterprise, they are positioned a step upwards, and then the Captain's chair is another step up still. This is very barely noticeable when Captain Styles walks to the navigator after entering the bridge.

I'm quite a fan of this fan imagining of the whole bridge. The steps and the bits seen in canon are maintained, but another, deeper level is added in front with rails to occupy all of that otherwise empty space.

Truth be told I also kind of like the NX bridge because of its status as an offshoot. I like rarities and one-offs, which is part of the reason why I like the NX version as a whole compared to her permutations.

Just feels like every time I mention this bridge, there always seems to be a chorus of people saying how much it sucks. :T

I'd say there's enough material in The Enterprise Incident to go hog-wild on depicting Romulan ship interiors (at least, retrofitted Klingon ones). I'm also a fan of the Bird of Prey's Column control scheme!

I'm still itching to see your bright bridge Enterprise-A variant as well!

I hear you on having the will to pursue projects, though. I find I have problems focusing on them long enough to finish though, something I'm trying to work on. Wherever your will takes you Donny, the passion and skill you put into these set creations will amaze!

Here's an idea for a Klingon project; do a movie era Klingon bridge, but with the TOS aesthetic.
I've actually been wanting to do that for a long time now. If I do so, it will probably look more "advanced" or "bigger budget" than what they would've done on the show had a script called for it.

Years ago Ptrope, the previous mod for this sub-forum, modeled a Klingon command chair and a gunnery station as they might have appeared during the 1966-69 production period. He was kind enough to let me serve as a "sounding board". We imagined the prop and set dressing staff modifying barber chairs for their ability to rotate upon a thick, central column. In retrospect I wonder if they might have been a bit too "robust" for what the production would have been willing to invest, both in time and materials.

Well, there are those "In Thy Image" Klingon bridge plans. They're suitably TOS-ish.

As to the ST3 Excelsior bridge, just carry that black overhead all the way around and treat it so any portion of it can be a viewer, a readout (as seen in the film), or the readouts superimposed over the visuals. That way you get the intent of the design while still staying true to what we saw of it. The stupid chair base lights and the cheap entrance are what really makes it look lame.

Eh, just use purple, pink, and blue on regular Earth plants, and throw in a few human hands sticking out of some planters. Voila! Alien plants.

Hey guys, longtime lurker here, I was recently re-watching Star Trek II and i noticed that the computer banks (Ge-635) used to raise the Enterpise's shields actually do appear on set, I caught a quick glimpse of them on the upper level of engineering on the Reliant when the Enterprise destroys Reliant's port nacelle and I managed to grab a couple screencaps:

Good catch! I think image linking opens up after you’ve done 25 or so posts. It’s an anti-spambot security measure.

Okay! Here's the first batch of final screenshots for the TMP Enterprise Main Engineering set. As is my style, there's a plethora of angles for your viewing pleasure ;)

I really have fallen in love with the more dramatic lighting scheme of the TMP engineering set over the TWOK one, and enjoy it's relative sparse layout.

More pics coming...
