I'm liking that Riker and Troi's children are named Thad (for Thaddius Riker) and Kestra (for Deanna's older sister, played by Kirsten Dunst in that one episode where we learn she died when Troi was just a little baby).
Point of order: Kirsten Dunst actually played Hedril, a young girl whose resemblance to Kestra triggers Lwaxana's episode in Dark Page. And although Dunst does appear in Betazoid make-up as a representation of Kestra in the shared dream between Lwaxana and Deanna, the actual Kestra was in fact played by someone different.

How do Picard and Soji end up in a Forrest where Kestra is galavanting about? It's not like Picard gave Hugh specific coordinates of the Riker homestead...

I guess Kestra happens to play a game of "Robin Hood and His Merry Men" designed by Picard in the Enterprise-D holodeck a long time ago (NOTE: Worf never liked the game):guffaw::guffaw::lol::lol:

If Hugh is killed off, he wasn't a main character.

Mate, there is no if. He's already dead. All of the people who've seen the leaked version, including those in this thread, have said as much. That's consistent.

I'll give 'em props for at least bringing back the original actor for Hugh before killing him off, but yeah, murder Trek continues. Now, I'm all about human frailties in Star Trek, and murder and death have been constant companions of this franchise since a contingent of Captain Pike's crew were slaughtered prior to the 1964 pilot episode. No one is claiming this universe is puppy dogs and rainbows. I'm just saying that it wears thin if that's week in, week out. From the 6 episodes released so far you could make a drinking game out of Picard. 1 shot every time someone says fuck. 1 shot every time a character is brutally slain. 1 shot for every character who belittles Picard and he sits there taking it like a chump. 1 shot for every time Romulan Legolas uses his sword to remove someone's head from someone's body.

In isolation these things are perfectly valid. Week after week, it's indicative of a problem on a writing level, and also, because even serial plots need 'relief episodes' to punctuate the drama and give us breather, and the Space Vegas episode could've been, maybe should've been, that. But it was. Can we have an episode without people being killed off? It's not ridiculous to expect in a season of 10 episodes for there to be some secondary characters who survive, some victories along the way. But no. Let's murder Hugh, because, I don't know, it wouldn't have been great to have maybe had him stay around until the end of the season to stand by Picard's side or something. Why not keep Maddox alive for a while too? Why so fast to kill them off?

And there's no relief. When Classic Trek got dark, it did so either while using it to push a message of optimism within the same episode, or it had episodes either side of it that did so. Even in the 'red shirts dying every week' of TOS, it wasn't all red shirts dying every week.

It's just too bleak, man. It's not about wanting a show with no gore, no murder. I think those are story telling tools. But every week? Because, ooh, aren't we so dark and edgy on our streaming service behind our paywall.

Cbs will work it out with her. But i think we now have the reason why maddox died so quickly...

They might. Or they could've, you know, actually paid her the royalties she was due, or asked her (the owner of the character) for permission to use him in the first place. But why be courteous or legal about it though, right? ;)

We can assume Patrick isn't staying more than a few years, so why this need to massacre anyone and everyone? Hasn't Trek learned in the past 30 years from killing Spock and Kirk? I know Hugh isn't on the level of those guys, but still. I'm hoping since del Arco referenced Hugh possibly reuniting with Guinan on Twitter that this death isn't set in stone and he got rushed to a regeneration alcove or medbay or something.

That being said, Jonathan Del Arco seems to have alluded several times on Twitter that he's going to be back for season 2. So, maybe there is more going on in later episodes?

I hope so. They're wasting the talent of a good actor and a great character otherwise.

Fair point. I need to rewatch this episode some time, I remember thinking it was really good. :)

He'll return as Fantome and shower us in bleep-de-bleep-deedldood symphonies before we learn he's simply cursing all the time.

I could even see it being ol’ Broccoli - er - Barclay.

I don't rate him as Captain material. Maybe, just maybe as "Captain of Engineering," but the only Captain of Engineering we ever saw was Scotty, who was very good at taking command if necessary.

Im not even tipsy yet

She does not OWN the character. She is due a royalty payment per WGA for creating the character that was used. That is ALL and checks are usually mailed out after the season airs. She knows this, or should. I find it unprofessional of her to talk about this to blogs and podcasts and not through her representation. Like she's just trying to grind an axe in public.

She said it during an interview with Midnight's Edge..........that should tell you a lot, the fact she even agreed to talk to them........
